As already reported on the net, Flair did negotiate a contract extension before agreeing to do the job that made him just another wannabe that fell to Hogan in the eyes of whatever marks are still out there. Flair renewed his contract through until March 1997 at his current rate, which is guessed to be in the $400000 range. So, even if Flair does return to the ring as soon as is rumoured, he did well for himself in a sticky situation. There are already reports that the buy rate for this show was not as high as expected. - Brutus Beefcake's WCW name became official this weekend. Not surprisingly after all of the "butchering a friendship" lines from the Havoc commentators, he was named "Butcher." Not "The Butcher" or anything else that might require an extra brain cell, just "Butcher." The angle is that Kevin Sullivan stole Hogan's "brother" in retaliation for Hogan stealing Kevin's "brother" Dave. Kudos to Bruce McGeorge who suggested this story line in e-mail immediately after the PPV. Butcher & Kevin Sullivan & Avalanche ("Earthquake" John Tenta) are known as The Three Faces of Fear. - The Observer had a funny line when talking about a WWF crew meeting. "They had a Q&A session with McMahon after winding up with Bret Hart going on a diatribe about how horrible it is that this meeting would be in the Observer and basically went on complaining about receiving bat match ratings." News of Bret Hart's prospective tow-movie deal also surfaced in the Observer this week. - AAA will broadcast a show on live PPV on 11/06/94. Matches are: - Konnan vs. Perro Aguayo, cage, 2-of-3 falls - El Hijo del Santo & Octagon vs. Eddy Guerrero & Love Machine, double mask vs. hair, 2-of-3 falls - Chris Benoit & 2 Cold Scorpio & Tito Santana vs. La Parka & Blue Panther & Jerry Estrada, 2-of-3 trios match - Heavy Metal & Rey Misterio Jr. & Latin Lover vs. Psicosis & Fuerza Guerrera & Madonna's Boyfriend, 2-of-3 falls trios match - Mascarita Sagrada & Octagoncito vs. Espectrito & Jerrito Estrada, 2-of-3 falls minis match Although my cable guide had no print ad and the cable operator I spoke with said the show was not picked up, ads were running on my preview channel this week, so it looks like I can order the show afterall. - UWFi has a PPV on 11/11/94. - WCW has Clash of Champions XXIX on 11/16/94. Line-up has: *- Hulk Hogan & Sting & Dave Sullivan vs. Avalanche & Butcher & Kevin Sullivan with Mr. T as special referee - Jim Duggan vs. Steve Austin for the US Title - Johnny B. Badd vs. Honky Tonk Man for the TV Title - Vader vs. Dustin Rhodes - Nasty Boys vs. Harlem Heat - WWF has Survivor Series on 11/23/94. The tentative line-up has: *- Bret Hart vs. Bob Backlund for the WWF Title in a submission match (sharpshooter and chicken wing are the only way to win, unless a corner man throws in the towel...) - Undertaker vs. Yokozuna in a casket match with Chuck Norris as ref - Davey Boy Smith & Razor Ramon & Fatu & Barbarian & 1-2-3 Kid vs. Jim Neidhart & Owen Hart & Shawn Michaels & Diesel & Jeff Jarrett - Doink & Dink & Wink & Pink vs. Jerry Lawler & Queasy & Wheezy & Cheesy - Lex Luger & Adam Bomb & Mabel & Smoking Gunns vs. Tatanka & King Kong Bundy & Bam Bam Bigelow & Heavenly Bodies Presumably, this show, which also has no print ad in my cable guide and was also "confirmed" as being passed on by my cable company, will also get picked up late in the game. - WCW has Starrcade '94 on 12/27/94. The Hulk Hogan vs. Vader main event has been dropped. Hogan will manipulate things so that Butcher or Avalanche are set up for a main event by this time. - Awards: Because of the AAA PPV on 11/06, I'll re-post the nominations list this weekend and wait until next Thursday before posting the ballot. This will give one last chance to add nominations you want others to consider before voting. Of course, you allowed to vote for things not on the nominations list - it's purpose is to remind you of things that took place this past year. - Videos: I have posted something about the availability of videos. If you missed it, I'll send it to you in e-mail upon request. Basically, all of the tapes in my video collection are available. My tape list is on the r.s.p-w ftp site (128.227.59.59) in the file herbtape.zip. I have made a total of five compilation tapes for the net: R.s.p-w 1, Japan 1981-1983, Japan 1984-1987, VideoMarinepiad I, and VideoMarinepiad II. If you are interested in details on any of these, just send some e-mail or browse the ftp site. I watched the past couple of months of SMW TV this past weekend. This included the TV taping from my Fanweek trip and it was pretty interesting to see how what I saw live was massaged into a TV show. For those that get the show, I sat dead center in the main camera shot of the ring in the second row on the bleachers, wearing a dark blue polo shirt. You'll see my head bob up and down every once in while as I make some notes on the matches. Anyhow, New Jack's interviews were even more tremendous when you could see his facial expressions. Herb...
