They ran the crawler several times and ran an interview with Ric Flair shortly after the first crawler where Flair pretended the signing was a non-issue. On this week's WCW SN, they'll have a "live" press conference of the signing. With Hogan coming in, everybody is talking about the money that WCW had to promise and how the deal wasn't worth it. Some people are reporting the projected value of the deal as $4-million. Meltzer reports that WCW has to get the same buy rate they've been getting recently just to break even now. - Bret Hart announced that he would have a "family member" in his corner at the King of The Ring title match against Diesel on Father's Day. The announcers on every show have been playing "What if..." with this, which leads people to think that any of the "..." candidates are not going to be the cornerperson. While Davey Boy Smith has been talked about, most are expecting the choice to be Jim Neidhart, even though the brother-in-law relationship has not been acknowledged in the WWF. - Ted DiBiase has promised the return of the Undertaker on TV this weekend. Brian Lee worked TV tapings using the Undertaker gimmick managed by DiBiase. It's said everywhere that it's hard to notice the difference until he whips the hair out of his face for a second. This will obviously lead to the return of the real Undertaker, with talk being that that match will lead to the Undertakers as a tag team. - Talk of Dusty Rhodes coming out of retirement to work the PPV has all but disappeared. Now, it looks like Arn Anderson is going to be moved into the slot as Dustin Rhodes' tag team partner. Arn announced that he was making Dustin an honourary Horseman. They'll be working the Clash and the PPV as a team. - Friday two weeks ago was the 10th anniversary of the death of Vince McMahon Sr. - The large hole create by Earthquake leaving the WWF has been immediately filled by the once-again signed Typhoon. It's hard to believe that the Earthquake vs. Yokozuna matches could be replaced by something worse. Earthquake is apprarently dropping out of wrestling altogether. - It looks like WCW is going to build a three-way feud for the WCW Tag Titles involving Cactus Jack & Kevin Sullivan, Nasty Boys, and Paul Roma & Paul Orndorff. - There was an indy show in Toronto last week, which featured such long unheard of wrestlers as The Missing Link and Angelo Mosca Jr., who had to make the short drives in from Burlington and Hamilton respectively. - The WWF has the King of the Ring PPV on 06/19/94 from Baltimore. Announced line-up has: - Bret Hart vs. Diesel for the WWF Title (the IC Title will not be on the line in this match) - Roddy Piper vs. Jerry Lawler - Headshrinkers vs. Yokozuna & Crush for the Tag Titles - an 8-man King of The Ring single elimination tournament, which looks like this: IRS (def. S. Steiner) --\ |----\ Mabel (def. Pierre) --/ \ |----\ Razor Ramon (def. Kwang) --\ / \ |----/ \ Bam Bam Bigelow (def. S. Plugg) --/ \ |-- King! Jeff Jarrett (def. Lex Luger) --\ / |----\ / 1-2-3 Kid (def. Adam Bomb) --/ \ / |----/ Tatanka (def. Crush) --\ / |----/ Owen Hart (def. Doink) --/ No word on Owen Hart's knee or Diesel's knee. Art Donovan, a former Baltimore Colt, is expected to appear at the show. - WCW has a Clash of Champions on WTBS on 06/23/94. Once again, it starts at 8:05pm EST and runs for 2 hours. The tentative line-up includes: *- Ric Flair vs. Sting to unify the WCW & WCW International World Titles - Nasty Boys vs. Kevin Sullivan & Cactus Jack for the WCW Tag Titles in a gang fight match - Steve Austin vs. Johnny B. Badd for the US Title *- Larry Zbyszko vs. Steve Regal for the TV Title *- Terry Funk & Bunkhouse Buck vs. Dustin Rhodes & Arn Anderson Hulk Hogan is expected to make his first WCW in-arena appearance for this show, no doubt as an angle that's part of the main event. - WCW Saturday Night on 07/09/94 will be broadcast live. - WCW has The Great American Bash on 07/17/94 from Orlando. Tentative line-up has: *- Ric Flair vs. Hulk Hogan *- Cactus Jack & Kevin Sullivan vs. Paul Orndorff & Paul Roma for the WCW Tag Titles *- Steve Austin vs. Rick Steamboat for the US Title *- Vader vs. Guardian Angel *- Terry Funk & Bunkhouse Buck vs. Dustin Rhodes & Arn Anderson - Videos: I have posted something about the availability of videos. If you missed it, I'll send it to you in e-mail upon request. Basically, all of the tapes in my video collection are available. I watched another tape of 1986 Memphis stuff over the past week. There were some fun things, like Jos LeDuc's heel turn on Paul Diamond and Buddy Landel & Bill Dundee are always priceless. The team of the Beach Boys debuted, consisting of John Stewart & Van van Horne. Wow! Stewart, of course, went on to "greatness" in the AWA. ;-) It was also funny to see the Nightmares return to Memphis. It was weird watching this and then seeing Ken Wayne (half of the Nightmares, along with Danny Davis) working a tag squash on a WCW show on the weekend. I completely disliked Jeff Jarrett during this really early stage of his career. Come to think it, I've never liked Jeff Jarrett. If you are interested in getting a copy of VideoMarinepiad I, drop me some e-mail. ***** This is your first VideoMarinepiad II Control Centre ***** Because it's a 6-hour mega-wrestling-event, VideoMarinepiad II will take place over two days. The first part of VM II will take place this coming Monday, when Curtis, Gary & I finally get together for something Curtis appropriately named Monday Night Raw Footage. Yes, the live house for VM II will be one-and-a-half times the live house for the original event! The second part of VM II will take place on 06/19/94. The Chuck Austin piece from "American Journal" is the first item on the VM II tape. Other items that are being considered for VM II: - Sabu vs. Terry Funk, 02/28/94 and/or 04/09/94 - Sabu vs. Al Snow, 04/02/94 and/or 04/08/94 - Other Sabu stuff - WWF MSG Royal Rumble, 01/18/94 - WWF MSG Tag Title change from 1-2-3 & Janetty to Quebecers, 01/18/94 - Heavenly Bodies vs. R'n'R Express 60 mins marathon match, 03/94 - Chris Candito vs. Tracy Smothers ladder match, 03/94 - WCW: 2 Cold Scorpio & Rick Steamboat & Sting vs. Brian Pillman & Steve Austin & Rick Rude, 05/06/93 All of this stuff is raw footage, so VM II will have a different flavour than VM I. The video quality should be up for VM II. Everything listed above is **** or better except the two WWF matches (the best "new" things I have from the promotion) which are *** (Rumble) and ***1/2 (tag). There will have to be some Japanese things, maybe some token great matches from All Japan and/or New Japan (perhaps flashbacks to great matches from a few years back?) and All Japan Women's Manami Toyota & Akira Hokuto vs. Kyoko Inoue & Toshiyo Yamada from 12/93. And, of course, some great interviews/angles/news segments will be included (but probably less than last time, where the non-match stuff ran 1.5 hours). I'm also thinking of including Cactus Jack's NWA TV debut from 1989 (vs. Brian Pillman in a good match, then refuses to leave the ring until Sting beats him up) or the Fantastics' NWA TV debut from 1988 (vs. Stan Lane & Bobby Eaton in a super match), among other North American things. If video quality permits, raw footage of Missy Hyatt imitating Dusty Rhodes in a nightclub will be included. ;-) As before, if you have any ideas or opinions, let me know what you think. For example, the above list of raw footage has two matches that run over one hour (marathon tag & royal roumble). Is this a good use of 1/3 of the tape? Unfortunately, due to licensing problems, we will no longer be able to market the Aja Kong styrofoam oil cans or the Bull Nakano "Thighs of Heaven" ice cream bars, so please stop the constant stream of orders.
