We are hosting an international conference on Comparison Methods and Stability in conjunction with the Fields Institute running four days and today has been a rather hectic beginning to the whole thing. } - D.J. Peterson, who reached his biggest fame as AWA Tag champ along with Del Wilkes (The Trooper, now the Patriot) when the AWA was on its last legs, died this past week when his motorcycle was blindsided by a truck. - Speaking of Wilkes, after learning to work in All Japan over the past long while, he came over for a try-out with the WWF, a place that will surely appreciate his newly developed workrate. - Scott Norton, who bailed out of WCW's Slamboree PPV due to the fact that he was supposed to put Sting over in his first big match and that he wasn't scheduled to work the next TV tapings (can you see the implication?), has apparently signed on with the WWF. - WCW gave Ton Zenk and Shane Douglas pink slips this past week. That means that they can stay on for nightly pay-offs but they won't get anywhere near their existing money deals. Douglas has reportedly quit WCW completely. - The WWF has the "King of the Ring" PPV on June 13th. The card will feature an 8-man tournament to determine who's the King of the Ring. The tourney line-up is: Bret Hart --\ |--\ Razor Ramon --/ \ |---\ Mr. Hughes --\ / \ |--/ \ Curt Hennig --/ \ |--- King of The Ring Jim Duggan --\ / |--\ / Bam Bam Bigelow --/ \ / |---/ Lex Luger --\ / |--/ Tatanka --/ Also on the card: - Hulk Hogan vs. Yokozuna for the WWF Title (rumoured that Mr. Fuji will not be present at ringside, but that Jimmy Hart and Brutus Beefcake will be; Beefcake will trim Yokozuna's hair after he loses the match; New Japan referee Tiger Hattori will be special referee) - Ted DiBiase & I.R.S. & Headshrinkers vs. Steiners & Smoking Gunns *- Shawn Michaels vs. Crush There is some talk that Michaels might win back the IC Title from Marty Janetty before this PPV, thus turning the last match into a title match. - Kamala is apparently out with an ankle injury. - There's a strange report here that Curt Hennig quit the WWF the day after Marty Janetty was given the IC Title in a surprise victory of Shawn Michaels live on Monday Night Raw. He was talked back into the fold two days later. - WCW has a Clash of Champions scheduled for 06/17/93 at 8:05pm EST from the Norfolk Scope, in Norfolk, VA. The show will be rebroadcasted on 06/25/93 at 10:35pm EST. The tentative Clash line-up is: - Vinnie Vegas vs. Jim Neidhart - Marcus Bagwell vs. Lord Regal - Paul Orndorff vs. Ron Simmons for the WCW TV Title in a 20-minute time limit match - Barry Windham vs. 2 Cold Scorpio for the NWA Title - Brian Pillman & Steve Austin vs. Ric Flair & Arn Anderson in a non-title tag match - Sting & Davey Boy Smith vs. Van Vader & Sid Vicious - WCW has this year's Beach Blast PPV on 07/11/93 from Gulfport, MS. Rumoured matches include: - Sting & Davey Boy Smith vs. Van Vader & Sid Vicious (rematch from the Clash of Champions - Ric Flair vs. Barry Windham for the NWA Title - The WWF has SummerSlam in 08/30/93 with a tentative main event of Hulk Hogan vs. Bret Hart for the WWF Title. - E-mail TidBits: If your site has a slow feed or you don't read news frequently enough and you want to get this posting as e-mail every week, send me e-mail saying so. - Videos: The match for the 1980-1983 Japan wrestling video has been decided on. The tape will practically be a dedication to Tiger Mask, with just over four hours out of six being Tiger Mask matches. The 1984-1987 Japan tape vote will conclude on Monday. Some time after that (after this conference ends!) I'll post the detailed match lists, some other tape-related news, and ordering info. I will be receiving some other video goodies hopefully by early next week at the latest.
