Slaughter & Big Boss Man & Virgil vs. Nasty Boys & Mountie & Repo-Man - Jim Crockett was fired by WCW. Apparently this was due to some differences with Dusty Rhodes. Crockett was a member of the WCW steering committee, and was credited for many of the positive things that have happened in the last little while within the company. His leaving could be bad. The official reason given Kip Frey was "philosophical differences." - In reviewing my tape of Phil Donahue's show on WWF sexual harassment, yes indeed, that was Elizabeth in the audience. If you have the show on tape, Elizabeth appears in a crowd shot at about the 45 minute mark of the show. Apparently, she was seated alonside Linda McMahon and Tom Cole, the one-time ring boy who had filed suit against Vince. Nobody knew whether Vince would be on the show, although the invitation had been given, and I guess when Cole settled his dispute with Vince (for a reported $70000 on the Sunday prior to this Donahue show - plus he gets his job back as part of the ring crew), Vince thought he could use the press to his advantage. - Well, they announced on the WWF syndies that WrestleMania VIII would be Hulk Hogan's final wrestling match. There is a rumour that Hogan will announce that he his planning to retire after WM on this week's TV shows. - Rowdy Roddy Piper will also be calling quits (again) after WrestleMania. Piper will stay with the WWF as a commentator - no doubt to combat WCW's acquisition of Jesse Ventura. Piper may replace Gorilla Monsoon on the commentary team, as talk continues that Monsoon is in ill health and contemplating retirement. Bret Hart will beat Piper for the IC Title at WM and then feud with Shawn Michaels. - Local columnist Frank Zicarelli had the following quote from WWF spokesman Steve Planamenta regarding the sexual harassment and steroid scnadal plaguing the company: "The public has to realize that Vine has come forward to address the issues. We've tackled the issues head on and we believe the public understands our position that the WWF is committed to family entertainment." After that quote, I guess Steve needed some help carrying his shovel away. - Videotape: Not much to report on the video this week. A group of about 30 net-fans is scanning the list of possible matches to decide on personal selections for the tape. This will probably go on for another week anyhow, if not a little longer. Herb...
