[RESULTS/OPINION]Monday Night RAW/Monday Nitro (5/27) (NOTE: I am in the process of moving and may not be able to write a Recap for next week. Hell, I may not even get to SEE the Monday Night shows if the cable doesn't get hooked up. My 'net access will be sketchy as well. Things should be back to normal by the middle or end of next week. Thank you for your time.) Monday Nitro: Live - Tonight the show switched to a 2 hour format. Tony Schiavonne and Larry Zbyszko host the first hour, while Eric Bischoff and Bobby Heenan take over for the second. - RIC FLAIR/ARN ANDERSON (w/ Woman & Liz) vs. THE AMERICAN MALES The Males are made to look pretty good, but Flair and Anderson win when Woman rakes her nails in Marcus Bagwell's eyes and Arn slaps on the DDT. Flair covers for the pin. Post match Flair and gang give an interview. Flair and Arn are gearing up for their match against Steve McMichael and Kevin Greene. - Clips are show of McMichael and Greene working out, making really big fools of themselves. - STEVE DOLL vs. THE MAULER (w/ Col. Parker) Eeek - a squash match. I believe the Mauler is Brian Lee (but it's been a while since I've seen him, so I'm not sure.) He's got short spiky hair and wears pink & black tights with leather chaps. The Mauler has the match well in hand until... Out of the audience comes Razor Ramon. Ramon grabs the mic and asks where Billionaire Ted, The Nacho Man, and Scheme Gene are. He calls Eric Bischoff a Ken doll. The audience was either too stunned to react (unlikely) or most of them simply didn't know who he was (incredibly enough.) I'm opting for the latter. The match never ends, as both wrestlers disappear during Ramon's tirade. Ramon strolls of, never once attracting any security (they're all too busy keeping Randy Savage out of the building apparently.) - SGT. CRAIG PITTMAN (w/ Teddy Long) vs. DIAMOND DALLAS PAGE Page quickly dispatches Pittman, but only after Pittman had applied a submission hold to Page's arm. Page raeches the ropes, then knocks down Teddy Long. This distracts Pittman long enough for Page to apply the Diamond Cutter. - Recap of the Randy Savage debacle. Savage is barred from competing in matches on television indefinitely (thought that won't stop him from appearing at house shows, nor will WCW stop talking about him and showing highlights packages like this.) - Mean Gene interviews The Shark, who is now no longer in the Dungeon of Doom. The Shark wants revenge against The Giant. - What has Hulk Hogan been up to? A highlights package of him is show (no part of it newer than stuff from last fall.) - THE GIANT (w/ Jimmy Hart) vs. THE SHARK Another chokeslam squash. After the pin, Big Biker Bubba runs in and shaves half of the Shark's hair off. Shark vs. Bubba coming to a midcard soon near you. - LEX LUGER vs. MAXX An actual TV Title defense. I've no idea who Maxx is, except that he's really big. He looks like Dean Malenko on steroids with a mohawk. Luger Torture Racks him for the win. Bischoff says he won't discuss "you-know-who's" surprise appearance earlier in the show, but that he'll be back to have his say at the end of the show. (Ramon's name is never mentioned.) Luger is intervewed by Mean Gene, but doesn't say much of interest. - "HARD WORK" BOBBY WALKER vs. BRAD ARMSTRONG According to the brochure, Arnstrong is a "wily cruiserweight veteran," while Walker is "an up-and-coming Power Plant trainee." Walker stumbles everytime he gets near the ropes, but still manages the upset win over Armstrong. By some strange twist of logic, this now apparently makes Walker the number one contender to Malenko's Cruiserweight Title. - LORD STEVEN REGAL (w/ Geeves) vs. ALEX WRIGHT Probably not a good idea to feature a German wrestler on Memorial day. Regal wins by hooking the legs, then flipping over into a bridge, cradling Wright for the pin. Regal then does an interview belittling Savage's efforts to become a "hard" man, the "Barnum and Baily escapee" World Champion, and even the invasion from another wrestling company. Regal says it's time for people to take notice of him, and challenges Sting to a match next week. - "Blood Runs Cold" promo is show, this time with the name "Glacier" added. - STING vs. SCOTT STEINER So-so match. It never really takes off - seeming to be on hold until the angle can surface. On cue, Luger comes out to root for Sting, followed by Rick Steiner. After a bit, both wrestlers spill to the floor. Luger tries to interfere on Sting's behalf, Rick intercedes, then all spill into the ring as the ref calls for the bell. The lockerroom empties to keep Luger and Rick Steiner apart. Sting looks upset at Luger, while Luger takes some very heelish cheap shots at the restrained Rick Steiner. Out comes Razor Ramon to the broadcast booth. Ramon says "we're sick of your big mouth." "Who's we?" "You know!" Ramon challenges WCW to bring out their three best wrestlers, because "we're taking over!" Bischoff, doing his best to maintain the illusion of a shoot, tells Ramon he's gone too far. Ramon says "you want a war... you got it!" - Next week's main event: ? Comments: This is bound to be the hottest angle in quite some time. Of course Ramon and whoever he brings with him are going to get stomped pretty badly by the best of WCW, but it should be interesting as it goes along. Ramon's name is never said, so as not to upset any "legal eagles" according to Bischoff. I wonder what they'll eventually call him? Good show, but the addition of the extra hour seems to have made room for squashes more than anything else. Monday Night RAW: Live - GOLDUST vs. THE ULTIMATE WARRIOR I'll be damned! The Warrior actually wrestles an okay match. The match itself went between 10 and 15 minutes. Warrior actually used a suplex. Goldust tries to run, but is cut off by Ahmed Johnson and carried back to the ring. The next time he runs, the Warrior chases after and both men are counted out, thus eliminating both from advancing in the King of the Ring Tournament. Lawler tries to hit the Warrior with Goldust's director's chair, but is chased away by the Warrior. - Clips of In Your House. Marc Mero beat Hunter Hearst Helmsly. Then the lights went out. Lightning struck a transformer and cut off the power and the satellite feed. The next three matches took place in the dark, then power came back on for the main event. Michaels and the Bulldog did a double pin thing and Gorilla Monsoon declared it a draw, ordering a rematch for KOTR. McMahon announces that IYH will be replayed, with the middle 3 matches redone live. Goldust vs. the Undertaker in the Casket Match, Vader vs. Yokozuna, and Vega (who won at IYH) vs. Steve Austin in the Carribbean Strap Match. Ted DiBiase and Steve Austin say that this time not only will Austin win and Vega be Ted's chauffeur, but that Ted will leave the WWF if Austin loses again. Hmm... - THE SMOKING GUNNS (w/ Sunny) vs. THE BODYDONNAS Gunns win this non-title match. Sunny tells Skip she isn't coming back. Yeah right. Gunns vs. Bodydonnas at KOTR, where Sunny will undoubtably get the belts back to her boys, the Bodydonnas. - Back to In Your House. Clarence Mason is shown delivering a subpoena to Shawn. Shawn tears it up. Still shots from the match, then shots of Diana Smith holding the World belt. McMahon says for all IYH subscribers to contact their cable operators as to getting refunds, watching the replay, or whatever it is each individual cable company plans to do in reimbursing the stiffed IYH viewers. I do know that not every cable company out there carries the replay, so perhaps a refund to others, with some folks out there probably just getting stiffed altogether. - VADER vs. AHMED JOHNSON Good power match. Johnson goes medieval on Vader, punching and kicking Vader down into the corner. Owen Hart is at ringside for color commentary. Ahmed gains the upper hand, then goes after Jim Cornette. (At one point Cornette lays in a brutal tennis racquet shot.) Owen intereferes, hitting Ahmed in the head with a cast on his arm (why Owen is wearing a cast I'm not sure.) Vader with the win to advance in the KOTR tourney. Ahmed is stretchered out. In the back, Goldust appears gushing that "he needs mouth- to-mouth." After a bit of lip locking (and retching from McMahon) Ahmed revives, wipes the gold paint off his mouth, then stumbles off in search of Goldust. Ahmed staggers, as if suffering from a concussion. He bumps into Bob Holly, whom he chokes for info as to Goldust's whereabouts. Next is Marc Mero, who does the smart thing and points out Goldy's dressing room. Some scrub who's guarding the door is shoved through it by Ahmed. Ahmed then punches the cameraman, and we are treated to an askew floor angle shot of Ahmed lumbering down the hall destroying everything in his path. Cool! - Next week's main event: ? Comments: Good show. Still though, not the greatest wrestling. Bottom line: Little good wrestling from either show, but the angles saved the night. And on that basis... This week's winner: Nitro. JRP
