[RESULTS/OPINION]Monday Night RAW/Monday Nitro (12/4) Monday Night RAW: Taped 11/20. - BOB HOLLY vs. BRITISH BULLDOG Virtual squash, with Bulldog getting the pin following a powerslam. - Jerry Lawler interviews Mr. Bob Backlund. Backlund rants on and on about his match next week against Bret Hart. Backlund is furious when informed it will be non-title. The mic is cut and they go to commercial. - FATU vs. BROOKLYN BRAWLER Squash. Fatu pins Lombardi. (I missed the finisher, not that it really matters). - Dok Hendrix begins an IYH promo. Scene cuts to Mr. Bob Backlund roaming the crowd, searching for the sound technician who cut off his mic earlier. Bob puts some scrawny guy in the crossface chicken-wing. Dok announces Owen Hart will face Diesel at IYH 5. - DEAN DOUGLAS vs. RAZOR RAMON Douglas does little, getting in only one good maneuver (a splash off the second rope). Mostly punches. turnbuckle shots, and restholds from both. Ramon gets the pin after the Razor's Edge. - Brother Love interviews King Mabel. Brother Love announces he has a surprise: a casket is wheeled out by someone in robes. Turns out to be Mo. The Undertaker's casket now has graffiti spray painted all over it. Yawn. - Coming January 1st: The RAW Bowl? Your guess is as good as mine. - PSYCHO SID (w/ Ted DiBiase) vs. MARTY JANNETTY There's a funny spot where Sid is on his back and Jannetty repeatedly slam's Sid's head to the mat. Apparently no decision, as first the 1-2-3 Kid interferes, and then Razor Ramon, who chases the Kid off into the crowd. - Taped segment featuring comments from Shawn Michaels' "personal" physician, Dr. Jeffrey Unger. Unger says, in short, that Shawn may never wrestle again. Piece eventually degenerates into a highlights clip with McMahon postulating on the nature of stardom. Very moving, though. - Next week's main event: Bret Hart vs. Mr. Bob Backlund. Comments: Overall, a fairly lackluster show. None of the matches were noteworthy. The show did have a "live" feel to it, though, as the WWF is subtlely altering the way RAW is delivered. IYH went virtually unmentioned. The final segment was very slick, doing a good job in helping to build anticipation for Shawn Michaels' eventual return (probably either at Royal Rumble or WrestleMania). Monday Nitro: Live. - AMERICAN MALES vs. HARLEM HEAT (w/ Sister Sherri) Usual back and forth action with the Heat delivering the only impressive maneuvers. Col. Parker comes out and gives Sherri a gift box, which she opens to find a ring. They leave the ring area together. Booker T. pins Scotty Riggs (I think) after the Harlem Hangover. - Mean Gene Okerlund interviews Sting and Luger. - STING vs. KURASAWA Didn't these guys just wrestle on WCW Saturday Night? Sting wins via submission after the Stinger Splash and the Scorpion Leglock. - SCOTT NORTON vs. THE GIANT Norton shows some impressive strength, but the Giant pins him after a kick-ass, devastating chokeslam. - Okerlund interviews Ric Flair in the ring. Flair is accompanied by Charles Barkley. Let me say that again: Charles Barkley! Barkley seemed to thoroughly enjoy being in Flair's presence. I didn't really catch what Flair said, (Something about Barkley being an honorary Horseman). - RANDY SAVAGE vs. LEX LUGER Not much is shown from either of these guys in this one. WCW says they have to cut to a commercial, then they run a Starrcade promo. Whatever. Ref gets knocked out of the ring. Hart signals to the back. Savage grabs Hart, preparing to do him grievous harm. Ric Flair enters the ring and floors Savage with an international object. Flair struts his way back to the lockerroom, but is met halfway by Hulk Hogan, who chases him back to the ring. By this time Luger is covering Savage, and the ref begins to make the count. Hogan stops the 3 count and the ref calls for the bell (presumably declaring the whole mess a "no contest"). Hogan winds up to clock Lex Luger, but instead accidentally nails Sting, who has entered the ring and pulled Lex out of the way. Sting and Hogan stare down, with Hogan tearing off his t-shirt. Pretty wild stuff, actually! After commercial break, Okerlund tries to interview the gang (Hogan, Sting, and Savage.) The usual comments of mistrust between the three are tossed about. Bischoff, McMichael, and Heenan wrap things up. - Next week's main event: Hogan & Sting vs. Flair & Arn Anderson. Yikes! Comments: Show started a minute or two early, and ran SEVEN minutes over. This is the third week in a row the show ran over it's alloted time. Fairly dreadful show up until the Flair/Barkley interview and the finish of the main event. Crowd had that "Wow! Here we go ... " reaction when Hogan popped Sting. Bottom line: Not really an "on" night for either show. Both made the annoying choice to cut to breaks during key matches. RAW still seems to be slowly pacing themselves, building more towards the Royal Rumble than In Your House 5. (I know I wouldn't buy it). WCW is pushing the envelope in several directions (perhaps too many). Again, there was no appearance by the light heavyweights. They really need to cut back on some of the content, or consider going to 90 minutes, IMO. This week's winner: Nitro. (But only for Hogan slugging Sting. Man, that looked cool!)
