I have to give two more lectures (Friday and Monday) and then things are calm until the final exam. Things were really busy this past week, with a final term test and assignments coming in. As a result, I barely had time to do much else. Sorry for the slim pickings. The match, which aired with entrance and celebrationg clips on WWF Action Zone, consisted of a kick to the gut followed by a power bomb. The commentary on the show made it seem as though Vince intended to make a run of things with Diesel. This may well have been a decision outside of the original plan, which by all accounts was to leave Backlund in as champion for at least a short stint into the new year. - Another new arrival to the WWF is Henry Godwinn, doing a Hillbilly gimmick. They aired a vignette featuring him on the weekend and he didn't look particularly familiar. Talk is that Heavenly Bodies will leave the WWF reasonably early in the new year. The Ultimate Warrior is also supposedly being talked to. - The WWF Tag Titles have been vacated by Shawn Michaels & Diesel as expected after Survivor Series. It's expected that WWF Prez Jack Tunney will announce a tournament to crown the new champions. No idea if the tourney will take place on television shows or at the Royal Rumble on PPV. This weekend, during every tag team squash the regular teams were pushed as being potential champions. We've got to choose from The Bushwhackers, Well Dunn, Men on a Mission, Smoking Gunns, Heavenly Bodies, and some makeshift teams, I guess. With the Bodies supposedly leaving, the prospects are poor. - After watching this weekend's TV from both of the "big" two promotions, it seems to me that things have never really been this dreary as a whole in the two nationals. WCW has no Flair and the Hogan vs. Butcher story line is insipid and dominates the shows too much. There are some good new things, like Alex Wright, the Fantastics, etc., but the main event sludge takes too much of the focus. The WWF also has too many bums at the top of the mix. The tag situation is dreadful and they plan to have a tournament. If I hear any WWF announcer tell me one more time how fast and agile King Kong Bundy is for a big man, I'll vomit. - WCW has Starrcade '94 on 12/27/94. Tentative line-up has: - Hulk Hogan vs. Butcher for the WCW Title - Sting vs. Avalanche - Jim Duggan vs. Vader for the US Title - Kevin Sullivan vs. Mr. T *- Nasty Boys vs. Harlem Heat *- Johnny B. Badd vs. Honky Tonk Man for the TV Title *- Alex Wright vs. Jean Paul Levesque - WCW has a Clash of Champions on 01/25/95. Randy Savage & Hulk Hogan will apparently work a tag match. - AAA is reportedly planning another PPV in 04/95. WCW will be involved again. - Awards: This will be the final week of voting. VOTING ENDS AT MIDNIGHT ON THURSDAY, DECEMBER 8. I will probably be able to get the votes tallied before the middle of the month so students who are leaving school by Christmas will be able to read the results before they leave. I still expect some old-time regulars to submit their votes (you know who you are!) so don't disappoint me. - Videos: I have posted something about the availability of videos. If you missed it, I'll send it to you in e-mail upon request. Basically, all of the tapes in my video collection are available. My tape list is on the r.s.p-w ftp site (128.227.59.59) in the file herbtape.zip. I have made a total of five compilation tapes for the net: R.s.p-w 1, Japan 1981-1983, Japan 1984-1987, VideoMarinepiad I, and VideoMarinepiad II. If you are interested in details on any of these, just send some e-mail or browse the ftp site. Herb...
