It presumably marked the return of Barry Windham and Terry Funk to the organization, with Funk establishing his relationship with Bunkhouse Buck (the explanation being Funk's hatred of the Rhodes family). As I first reported last week, Terry Funk did sign a contract with WCW. The extent of that contract is not yet clear, but Terry did work TV tapings for the group. His PPV appearance seemed to indicate that he was not in any way abandoning ECW (really, how many nights of the month is he even used by the group?) and that he has some control over his role. The PPV also marked the exit of Rick Rude and the Nasty Boys. Rude did not even appear on the show; while many reasons are being used to explain his falling out with the company, in truth it's probably more a combination of things over time. The Nasty Boys needed time for Jerry Saggs to recover from a shoulder injury, an injury he must have aggravated at the show. It seemed as though they booked a special spot (where Saggs took a shot from a hockey stick on this shoulder before doing the job) to put the injury in the story line. As a result of these problems, the unlikely team of Kevin Sullivan & Cactus Jack came out of the show with the WCW Tag Titles and Sting came out of it with the WCW International World Title. - I also first reported last week that Curt Hennig had signed a deal with WCW. This seems surprising since everybody had been reporting that Curt was locked into a WWF contract until much later in the year. It's highly unlikely that the WWF would let him out of the contract so that he could work for their chief rivals. Perhaps the disagreement that led to Curt being dropped from WWF story lines also led to him being fired, which would mean that he was free to do as he pleases. (If he quit, the WWF could still keep him locked to his contract). Anyhow, there is already talk of Curt working against Ric Flair at the August Clash of Champions. In addition, in taped interviews, Sherri Martel has talked of looking for a perfect man, leading everybody to believe that new addition of Hennig has made WCW abandon pairing Sherri with Ron Simmons. - Talk is that Cactus Jack & Kevin Sullivan will only be champions for a really short run, essentially champions by necessity due to Nasty Boy Jerry Saggs injury. Meltzer reports that it's expected that Paul Orndorff & Paul Roma will win the titles quickly and move into a program against Marcus Bagwell & Patriot, a newly formed team being billed as "Stars & Stripes." - The WWF has the King of the Ring PPV on 06/19/94 from Baltimore. Tentative line-up includes (all but the tag title match has been announced already): - Bret Hart vs. Diesel for the WWF Title (the IC Title will not be on the line in this match) - Roddy Piper vs. Jerry Lawler - Headshrinkers vs. Yokozuna & Crush for the Tag Titles - an 8-man King of The Ring single elimination tournament, which looks like this so far: IRS (def. S. Steiner) --\ |----\ Mabel (def. Pierre) --/ \ |----\ Razor Ramon (def. Kwang) --\ / \ |----/ \ Bam Bam Bigelow (def. S. Plugg) --/ \ |-- King! Jeff Jarrett (def. Lex Luger) --\ / |----\ / 1-2-3 Kid (def. Adam Bomb) --/ \ / |----/ Tatanka --\ / |----/ Owen Hart (def. Doink) --/ - It's expected that after the King of The Ring PPV the Heavenly Bodies will get a big push in the WWF's tag team division. - As already reported on the net, Brian Lee will be leaving SMW later in the year for the WWF where it's rumoured he'll be the more evil half of an Undertaker team. - WCW has a Clash of Champions on WTBS in 06/23/94. Once again, it starts at 8:05pm EST and runs for 2 hours. The tentative line-up includes: - Steve Austin vs. Johnny B. Badd for the US Title Hulk Hogan is expected to make his first WCW in-arena appearance for this show. - WCW has The Great American Bash on 07/17/94 from Florida. - Videos: I have posted something about the availability of videos. If you missed it, I'll send it to you in e-mail upon request. Basically, all of the tapes in my video collection are available. I've uploaded an updated version of my detailed tape list to the ftp site. I've managed to enter some details for all of my weekly TV tapes, so there's a total of very close to 500 tapes listed. If you are interested in getting a copy of VideoMarinepiad I, drop me some e-mail. VideoMarinepiad II will probably take place over two days in June, with the majority of the show taking place on 06/19/94. All promotions will be considered for participation in VM II and hopefully we'll showcase a diverse selection of matches so that fans of any one promotion won't feel insulted. Stay tuned. Lots of great things have arrived or are on their way to me, so I anticipate having a lot of fun with VM II. The Chuck Austin piece from "American Journal" is the first item on the VM II tape. This was a very strange week for video mail. I received a parcel pick-up notice and anticipated it would be some tapes. When I got to the post office, sure enough, the parcel was meant to have tapes in it. Unfortunately, it was stamped "Received damaged in Toronto" many times. I was more than a little confused when the contents of the package was flexible and even more surprised when I opened it to find a copy of "Brady Emergency Care," 6th edition, inside. This should take a little while to sort out. Herb...
