The "story" ran only 2.5 minutes and was a mix of clips of brutal but non-bloody shots from the two PPVs and an interview with a kickboxing champ who said the shows were too brutal and should be outlawed. The angle of the story was that these tournaments are too violent and IE showed lots of disdain towards them. It ended with a comment like "another UFC PPV is scheduled for the fall. How unfortunate." I found it funny that they ran several commercials earlier in the evening hyping this edition of IE and only mentioned this story. - The Chuck Austin case hit the Observer this past week. Not much else to report over what was said here last week. The jury actually found that the WWF was only 90% negligent in the case and, so, the much reported award of $26.7 million is not quite what the company has to pay. The WWF has three weeks to appeal the decision. - WCW has Slamboree II on 05/22/94 in Philly. Tentative line-up includes: *- Ric Flair defending the WCW Title - Rick Rude vs. Vader for the WCW International Title - Nasty Boys vs. Kevin Sullivan & Cactus Jack for the Tag Titles in a Broad Street Bully Match - Tully Blanchard vs. Terry Funk - Steve Austin vs. Johnny B. Badd for the US Title - Steve Regal vs. Larry Zbyszko for the TV Title - Dustin Rhodes vs. Bunkhouse Buck in a Texas bullrope match Legends slated as appearing include Verne Gagne, Dusty Rhodes, Killer Kowalski, The Assassin, Ray Stevens, Red Bastien, Larry Hennig, Ole Anderson, Blackjack Mulligan, Tommy Young, Lou Thesz. The tag title match will have a special referee: Dave Shultz, apparently an ex-hockey player with the Philadelphia Flyers. While WCW had planned for Flair to defend against Barry Windham, they had never mentioned Barry by name of even hinted that it was him. The plan to use Barry apparently fell through because Windham didn't have a doctor's release and the company didn't want to risk him getting hurt in the match. Some sources are reporting that the problem has been solved somehow and that Windham is back in as the challenger. The storyline was that Col. Parker had arranged for his "Big Stud" to face the champion on the PPV. The day before the PPV they had planned to air a run-in with Windham (under a hood) destroying Flair. - The WWF has the King of the Ring PPV on 06/19/94 from Baltimore. Tentative line-up includes: - Bret Hart vs. Diesel for the IC Title *- Roddy Piper vs. Jerry Lawler *- Headshrinkers vs. Yokozuna & Crush for the Tag Titles - an 8-man King of The Ring single elimination tournament, which looks like this so far: IRS (def. S. Steiner) --\ |----\ Mabel (def. Pierre) --/ \ |----\ Razor Ramon (def. Kwang) --\ / \ |----/ \ --/ \ |-- King! --\ / |----\ / --/ \ / |----/ --\ / |----/ --/ We know from tapings that 1-2-3 Kid (def. Adam Bomb) and Jeff Jarrett (def. Luger) are in the tournament as well, but we know where they fit in yet. The Mabel vs. Pierre match airs this weekend on the Superstars syndie. Next Monday night on RAW, Bam Bam Bigelow takes on Sparky Plugg in a qualifier. - WCW has a Clash of Champions on WTBS in 06/94. Tentative line-up includes: *- Steve Austin vs. Johnny B. Badd for the US Title - WCW has The Great American Bash on 07/17/94 from Florida. - Videos: I have posted something about the availability of videos. If you missed it, I'll send it to you in e-mail upon request. Basically, all of the tapes in my video collection are available. I've uploaded an updated version of my detailed tape list to the ftp site. I've managed to enter some details for all of my weekly TV tapes, so there's a total of very close to 500 tapes listed. If you are interested in getting a copy of VideoMarinepiad I, drop me some e-mail. The plans are in the works for VideoMarinepiad II in June. All promotions will be considered for participation in VM II and hopefully we'll showcase a diverse selection of matches so that fans of any one promotion won't feel insulted. Stay tuned. Lots of great things have arrived or are on their way to me, so I anticipate having a lot of fun with VM II. Herb...
