I was in Toronto yesterday and had problems with my dial-in attempts prior to leaving. } - In late 1990, a jobber had his neck broken in a tag match involving the Rockers. The story didn't get talked about too much here at the time, with the bottom line being that the match would never air and that the jobber planned to sue. Well, the jobber, Chuck Austin, had his case begin in mid-April. The injury occurred when Chuck landed wrong during Marty Janetty's leg-drop-DDT maneuver. He had expressed concern about taking the bump required for that move. Chuck sued for $3.8 million in total, claiming both Rockers and Titan were negligent in the case. While he's able to get around today on crutches, he has to take drugs to combat the pain he's always in. The jury ended up awarding Chuck a $26.7 million verdict. Of course, the WWF plans to appeal to decision. As has been pointed out, their insurance covers only a small percentage of the verdict and if they have to pay out the difference it could well kill them. Between this decision and the one in favour of Jesse Ventura, one has to wonder about the quality of the Titan lawyers. - Curt Hennig has apparently quit the WWF. His contract runs until December, so he will be unable to work for any other company until that time. WCW had supposedly talked to him before his appearance at WrestleMania X, so the obvious rumours have begun. - The Steiners have quit the WWF. Upset at attempts to turn them against each other for a brother vs. brother feud down the road as well as the usual pay complaints, the Steiners decided to just no-show their dates with the promotion. While this means that they'll be out of action in North America until December, they will still be able to work dates for New Japan. Rumour has them wanting to return to WCW, although if money was a prime reason for leaving the WWF, one has to wonder about it. As you'll recall, the Steiners were originally slated to wrestle the Quebecers at WrestleMania and win the tag titles, but their spot was taken by Men on a Mission. - Lots of talk that WCW plans to resurrect the "Four Horsemen" gimmick yet again. - Diesel's IC Title win aired this weekend on Superstars. Diesel being in the upper echelon of the roster really soils the mix. - With 2 Cold Scorpio gone, they were planning to team the much-improved Marcus Bagwell with Jungle Jim Steel. - Missy Hyatt's sexual harrassment complaint against her WCW supervisors got a little press in an old issue of "The Star" tabloid. Nothing new in there, although she was quoted as claiming the incident where her breast popped out of her top and was caught on film was at Starrcade. The "Current Affair" story seemed to show a blurry image of her wearing a black outfit when this happened, which means it wasn't Starrcade. During that TV piece, she also talked about the "TV time limit remaining" being the reason for her interference, which is a little confusing as well. This confusion is probably meant to leave things unclear since Missy most likely doesn't want to advertise when and where this happened. - WCW has Slamboree II on 05/22/94. Tentative line-up includes: *- Ric Flair vs. Barry Windham for the WCW Title *- Rick Rude vs. Vader for the WCW International Title *- Nasty Boys vs. Kevin Sullivan & Cactus Jack for the Tag Titles - Tully Blanchard vs. Terry Funk - Steve Austin vs. Johnny B. Badd for the US Title - Steve Regal vs. Larry Zbyszko for the TV Title - Dustin Rhodes vs. Bunkhouse Buck in a Texas bullrope match They will set up the substitution of Cactus Jack for Dave Sullivan in a TV angle claiming that the Nasty Boys broke Dave's leg. At some point, Larry Zbyszko will win the TV Title. Good thing all of those time limit draws built to something really meaningful, like a retired wrestler capturing the belt. The print ad for this show just lists the Vader vs. Rude match (with no title specified) and the Nasty Boys vs. Sullivans match. The cable ad running here doesn't talk about any matches. Legends slated as appearing include Verne Gagne, Dusty Rhodes, Killer Kowalski, The Assassin, Ray Stevens, Red Bastien, Larry Hennig, Ole Anderson, Blackjack Mulligan, Tommy Young, Lou Thesz. - The WWF has the King of the Ring PPV on 06/19/94 from Baltimore. Tentative line-up includes: - Bret Hart vs. Diesel for the IC Title - Headshrinkers vs. Smoking Gunns for the Tag Titles - an 8-man King of The Ring single elimination tournament The KotR tournament will have qualifying matches airing throughout this month. The first match, airing this week on Superstars, has IRS vs. Scott Steiner. - WCW has a Clash of Champions on WTBS in 06/94. - WCW has The Great American Bash on 07/17/94 from Florida. - Videos: I have posted something about the availability of videos. If you missed it, I'll send it to you in e-mail upon request. Basically, all of the tapes in my video collection are available. I've uploaded an updated version of my detailed tape list to the ftp site. I've managed to enter some details for all of my weekly TV tapes, so there's a total of very close to 500 tapes listed. If you are interested in getting a copy of VideoMarinepiad I, drop me some e-mail. I believe that I am up-to-date with all e-mail, so if you are awaiting a response for e-mail not sent in the last couple of days, chances are it disappeared amidst the double vision hysteria. In response to e-mail questions, yes, VideoMarinepiad will most likely become a regular event. The plans are in the works for VM II in June. All promotions will be considered for participation in VM II and hopefully we'll showcase a diverse selection of matches so that fans of any one promotion won't feel insulted. Stay tuned. Lots of great things have arrived or are on their way to me, so I anticipate having a lot of fun with VM II. Herb...
