I've had a bit of a flu and, unfortunately, the time I usually spend on these things has been cut down. Butting heads, locking necks and biting are legal. Chomping on sexual organs is not." No, it's a not an article about Pat Patterson being kicked out of the WWF. The article begins, "With a pink sequined cape gracing his furry hump, Jhara the wrestling camel is working himself into a pre-match frenzy." Apparently, camel wrestling is a somewhat brutal but popular sport in Pakistan. I hope Vince didn't see this. First the WWF, then the WBF, next the rumoured WMAF, and finally the WCWF? Hmmmm. - As already reported on the net, there is talk that Ric Flair and Hulk Hogan would like to have a PPV match at some point this year. WCW is scrambling to work something out. Certainly, that match would have cross-promotional appeal and if WCW could promote it well and have a very strong undercard (compared to current WWF shows), they could conceivably draw some new fans into the fold. It wouldn't be a great match compared to other possible Flair matches, but it could be the best move for the company to increase its fan base and they could then try to keep the new fans. - Gene Okerlund actually mentioned Hogan's name on the weekend shows, saying that he was prohibited about talking about details on TV, but Sting and Hulk Hogan would be teaming up soon. Clearly, this is a plug for "Thunder in Paradise," Hogan's soon-to-start-airing TV show. Meltzer points out that Hogan's show is taped in Orlando, with the studio right next door to WCW's studio, so he thinks that whether or not Hogan makes a pop-in appearance at the next Orlando tapings is a measure of the progress in any negotiations. - Anybody hoping or thinking that the WWF was going to start pushing Bam Bam Bigelow as a monster heel a la Vader better think again. The next house show run will feature Bammer & Luna vs. Doink & Dink in mixed tag matches. - Talk that WCW is negotiating with Dan Kroff & Doug Furnas to come in in between All Japan tours. Kroffat & Furnas used to go to Mexico to fill time between tours, but that has fallen through. - Meltzer reports that the WWF made major gaffes on the syndies of that weekend that aired on Sunday, the day after the Rumble. In voice-overs, they talked about the Rumble "last night" and the great match between Tatanka and Ludvig Borga. He also said that in New York they aired the Sunday version on Saturday, so the talked about the finish of the Rumble before the match had even ended. - WCW has SuperBrawl IV on 02/20/94. Announced line-up includes: - Ric Flair vs. Big Van Vader in a Thunderdome cage match - Brian Pillman & Sting & Dustin Rhodes vs. Steve Austin & Paul Orndorff Rick Rude in the Thunderdome cage - Steve Regal vs. Arn Anderson for the TV Title - Nasty Boys vs. Maxx Payne & Cactus Jack for the WCW Tag Titles - Harlem Heat vs. Thunder & Lightning - Diamond Dallas Page vs. Terry Taylor - Jungle Jim Steele vs. Equalizer As expected, Vader beat up Rick Steamboat on this past weekend's TV show. This led to Ric Flair "phoning in" and asking commissioner Nick Bockwinkel to re-instate his match with Vader at SuperBrawl. By the end of the show, the match was back on, provided that Flair supplied a medical release to Bockwinkel. This show was originally supposed to have Johnny B. Badd vs. Michael Hayes on it. Their grudge is being set up on World Wide Wrestling, taped in Orlando last year. Hayes' contract came up and he was not happy with the new offer, so he quit the promotion. That means that they will just have to drop the story line or come up with a creative finish at the upcoming Orlando tapings. - The WWF has WrestleMania X on 03/20/94 from MSG in New York. Announced matches include: - Lex Luger vs. Yokozuna for the WWF Title - Bret Hart vs. winner of above match for the WWF Title - Bret Hart vs. Owen Hart - Crush vs. Randy Savage with falls counting anywhere and both wrestlers having to be back in the ring 30 seconds after a pinfall - The WWF has the King of the Ring PPV in 07/94 from Baltimore. - Videos: I have posted something about the availability of videos.
