It runs until 03/95. The current dirt is that all the new players in WCW will debut at the Clash of Champions on 01/27. Bobby Heenan will be brought in as a commentator and, after the Clash, will take control of the weekly WCW Main Event Sunday night show (no idea who he'll co-host with). Nick Bockwinkel will debut as WCW's new commissioner. - There's a strange report that Kensuke Sasaki was shot dead in Tokyo on the weekend. Sasaki, of course, is one half of New Japan's IWGP tag champs the Hellraisers, along with Road Warrior Hawk. He would be known to North American audiences for his brief stint with WCW, where he had an aborted feud with Rick Rude. - The Super Shock Master will be Fred Ottman under a hood. Plans are afoot to set up a program with SSM vs. Vader. - Talk is that Sid Vicious will not be brought in to WCW. That could change daily, it seems. - A while ago it was reported that, in the face of all the problems facing Vince McMahon, the WWF would become more of a regional promotion, with far fewer jaunts to places outside of the home base (with those jaunts being to proven locales only). Certainly, that's the case for Toronto, a good-drawing WWF city, which is down to getting shows every couple of months at best. So, it's not too much of a surprise to hear that the WWF promoted the tag title rematch at MSG on a national TV show even though the majority of the TV audience couldn't attend. - Police in Calgary have issued a warrant for the arrest of Davey Boy Smith on charges of aggravated assault. On the evening of 07/25/93, while visiting Calgary, Smith is alleged to have been involved in a barroom brawl which ended with the other guy suffering some brain damage. Kody Light suffered a fractured skull, lost hearing in one hear, lost the ability to speek clearly, and has memory difficulties. The Calgary police have begun extradition proceedings to bring Smith back into the country - Smith and his wife Diana (Stu Hart's daughter) currently reside in Florida and Smith is currently working in England. Smith's Calgary lawyer claims that Smith has every intention of returning to Calgary to face the charges against him. In fact, Smith has reportedly said that he will return after the current England tour ends. I mentioned this situation first in a post late last year, but details were not forthcoming. Although WCW has claimed that Davey Boy Smith was terminated because he failed to show up for some dates and they wanted to set a new example for that kind of behaviour by punishing a star for it, the impending legal charges against Smith may well have been a factor. It wouldn't do to have one of your top babyfaces beating up night club patrons to the point of brain damage, after all. After being fired by WCW, Smith relaxed in Florida a bit, working on some cards promoted by Jim Neidhart, who also lives in Florida, and then worked some dates in England. Talk is that the money freed up by firing Smith will be used to make the currently-free Curt Hennig an offer he can't refuse. - The WWF has Royal Rumble on 01/22/94 in Providence. The announced line-up has: - Yokozuna vs. The Undertaker for the WWF Title in a casket match - The Quebecers vs. Owen & Bret Hart (for the WWF Tag Titles?) - Razor Ramon vs I.R.S. for the IC Title - Tatanka vs. Ludvig Borga - Royal Rumble (all 30 announced participants): Bret Hart, Owen Hart, Crush, Kamala, Doink, Mabel, Mo, Scott Steiner, Rick Steiner, Shawn Michaels, Diesel, Adam Bomb, Bam Bam Bigelow, Randy Savage, 1-2-3 Kid, Samu, Fatu, Bob Backlund, Greg Valentine, Rick Martel, Billy Gunn, Bart Gunn, Bastion Booger, Marty Janetty, Tatanka, Ludvig Borga, Genichiro Tenryu, Kabuki, Lex Luger Most serious talk is that Undertaker will win the title from Yokozuna and Lex Luger will win the Royal Rumble. The Luger vs. Undertaker title match at WrestleMania would be booked so that the most popular guy on that day would be champion at the end of it, rumours go. Either that or UT will drop the belt back to Yokozuna, who would then have to defend against Lex Luger. But wait! Luger gets no more title shots against Yokozuna thanks to Jim Cornette, right? Howsabout if WWF Prez Jack Tunney's rules that Lex Luger agreed to only one title shot during the second title reign of Yokozuna and that the agreement does not apply to this new title reign? - WCW has Clash of Champions XXVI on 01/27/93, live on WTBS. Announced line-up has: - Ric Flair & Sting vs. Vader & Rick Rude in a tag elimination match - Nasty Boys vs. Maxx Payne & Cactus Jack for the WCW Tag Titles - Dustin Rhodes vs. Steve Regal for the TV Title - Brian Pillman vs. Colonel Parker with the loser having to wear a chicken suit on 01/29/93 WCW SN TV - Ice Train vs. Ron Simmons Meltzer has also reported the following two matches: - Marcus Bagwell & 2 Cold Scorpio vs. Paul Orndorff & Paul Roma - Johnny B. Badd vs. Shanghai Pierce in a hair vs. mask match - WCW has SuperBrawl IV on 02/20/94. Rumoured line-up includes: - Ric Flair vs. Big Van Vader in a Thunderdome cage match - Brian Pillman & Sting & Dustin Rhodes vs. Steve Austin & Paul Orndorff Rick Rude in the Thunderdome cage - Steve Regal vs. Arn Anderson for the TV Title - Nasty Boys vs. Maxx Payne & Cactus Jack for the WCW Tag Titles - Johnny B. Badd vs. Michaels Hayes - Harlem Heat vs. Thunder & Lightning - Diamond Dallas Page vs. Terry Taylor - Jungle Jim Steele vs. Equalizer - The WWF has WrestleMania X on 03/20/94 from MSG in New York. - The WWF has the King of the Ring PPV in 07/94 from Baltimore. - Videos: I have posted something about the availability of videos.
