I will log in a couple more times before my holiday travels begin on Tuesday. There will not be a Tidbits posting next week and probably not the week after (although that could change). I'd like to take a quick second to wish everybody a relaxing and peaceful holiday and a happy new year. May you all find a "Best of AJW" tape in your Xmas stocking. ;-) Herb... } - Out of the frying pan and into the fire? Faster than you can say Bobby Heenan, the Brain was contacted by WCW after his falling out with the WWF. Vince had a problem flying Bobby Heenan from Sarasota to Stamford several times a week to do the different commentary jobs and wanted Heenan to move. Heenan didn't want to move. The sides reached an impasse and Heenan's association with the WWF is history. WCW immediately called up the Brain and offered to fly him anywhere any time they needed him there. The deal was struck, the Brain is in, we'll see him at Starrcade. - Madusa is the new WWF's women's champion, having won what was seemingly a mostly-fictitious tournament at best. She will supposedly be brought into the WWF as Alexandria Blaise and feud with Luna. Very creative name, eh? Blaise makes you think of Blaze makes you think of Bam Bam's tatooed head and fireball image makes you think that eventually Bam Bam & Blaise will be paired. What a lovely love triangle we'd have there. - Davey Boy Smith is history with WCW. Reports vary on whether this is a temporary suspension or a permanent one. Of course, the talk is about steroids, but apparently Davey was involved in a barroom brawl in Calgary and there are legal charges stemming from that that WCW wants to distance itself from. He will be replaced by the Big Boss Man at Starrcade in the WCW International Title match. - Back in WCW is Diamond Dallas Page (wasn't there talk of him going to the WWF?). Jungle Jim Steele is also in. - WCW has Starrcade '93 on 12/27/93 from Charlotte, NC. The line-up will include: - Ric Flair vs. Van Vader for the WCW Title in a special stipulation match: Flair will retire if he doesn't win the title *- Big Boss Man vs. Rick Rude for the WCW International Title - The Nasty Boys vs. Sting & Hawk for the WCW Tag Titles - Rick Steamboat vs. Lord Steven Regal for the TV Title *- Dustin Rhodes vs. Steve Austin for the US Title in a 2 out of 3 falls match - Paul Roma & Paul Orndorff vs. 2 Cold Scorpio & Marcus Bagwell - Awesome Kong vs. The Schockmaster - The Equalizer vs. Terry Taylor - New Japan has the annual beginning of the year show in Tokyo Dome on 01/04/94. The line-up is: - Genichiro Tenryu vs. Antonio Inoki - Tatsumi Fujinami vs. Hulk Hogan - Tatsutoshi Goto vs. Super Strong Machine - Hell Raisers: Kensuke Sasaki & Hawk vs. Jurassic Powers: Hercules & Scott Norton - Jushin Liger vs. Tiger Mask - Keiji Muto & Hiro Hase vs. The Steiners - Osamu Kido & Black Cat & Satoshi Kojima & Manabu Nakanishi & Yuji Nagata vs. Shiro Koshinaka & Kengo Kimura & Great Kabuki & Kuniaki Kobayashi & Michiyoshi Ohara - Takayuki Iizuka & Akira Nogami vs. Masashi Aoyagi & Akitoshi Saito - Shinya Hashimoto vs. Masahiro Chono for the IWGP Title - Riki Choshu vs. Yoshiaki Fujiwara - The WWF has Royal Rumble on 01/22/94 in Providence. Rumoured line-up includes: - Yokozuna vs. The Undertaker for the WWF Title in a casket match - The Quebecers vs. Smoking Gunns for the WWF Tag Titles *- Shawn Michaels vs. Razor Ramon for the IC Title It's expected that Owen and Bret Hart will somehow collide in the Royal Rumble. There is some good news in that main event. The winner of the Royal Rumble will get a WWF Title match at WrestleMania against the title holder at that time; so, we won't get a Yokozuna vs. UT rematch at WrestleMania. ;-) - WCW has SuperBrawl IV on 02/20/94. Rumoured line-up includes: - Ric Flair vs. Big Van Vader in a Thunderdome cage match - Brian Pillman & Sting & Dustin Rhodes vs. Steve Austin & Paul Orndorff Rick Rude - The WWF has WrestleMania X on 03/20/94 from MSG in New York. - Videos: Edmontonion Jonathan Chau and I got together to watch some stuff on video yesterday. It was basically the same fare that Keith Scott Alan and I looked at a week ago. I think Jonathan was most impressed with the Thunder Queen Battle match and the Steve Williams vs. Kenta Kobashi match. Some other video comments on other things I've watched recently: - Stampede Wrestling Classics. It's 90 minutes long and has several complete matches on it. A lot of stuff is from the 1979 to 1981 time frame, including Bret Hart vs. Dynamite Kid and Dynamite Kid vs. Davey Boy Smith, matches with Jake Roberts, Jim Neidhart, Andre the Giant, Archie Gouldie, Bruce Hart & Brian Pillman. No Japanese stars or Chris Benoit made the tape. - I had some fun watching a midget match from an AJW show. I can't believe it either. Mr. Buddha Man was one of the midgets. He looks just like the sterotypical Buddha statue, pot belly, bald, and he was dressed like Mr. Clean. They did a lot of funny spots where his opponent couldn't get moves on him because of his shape. - One of the funny highlights of the AJW stuff was a tag match between Aja Kong & Sakie Hasegawa and Bull Nakano & Kaoru Ito. Right at the beginning, Bull interfered when Kaoru and Sakie were facing off, so Aja ran in and the four women fought, with Aja & Sakie dumping the others out of the ring. Then they pretended they were the Steiners for a second, with Aja running around the ring barking and then getting on all fours underneath Sakie. The crowd was barking it up and eating it up. It was pretty funny. Herb...
