I've got two nasty gash wounds that would rival anything on Abdullah's forehead...well, okay, Dusty's shoulder. ;-) Now, on with the post. Herb... } - Lots of talk of Hulk Hogan being named as the "mystery friend" who Vince McMahon admits sharing steroids with. Vince has said from the start that he experimented with decadurabolin and shared it with a friend and didn't understand how that made him the distributor that he is accused of being. It's expected that Hogan will be forced to testify against McMahon. Speaking of Hogan, people have been talking about the fact that his wrestling doll is mentioned in the new WWF ad. Hey, the guy can have a souvenir contract with Vince and not a wrestling one. It doesn't mean anything about the personal situation between the two - the subject of much speculation with Bret Hart and Randy Savage dumping on the Hulster in recent times. Business is business and those damn dolls have to be *big* business. - Bobby Heenan was unceremoniously dumped by Gorilla Monsoon on Monday Night Raw this past Monday. His contract is up, he and Vince couldn't reach a deal, he's gone. - Curt Hennig apparently used his dad's illness as an excuse not to return to the WWF. He was pissed that he was never given the IC title back. After all, he headlined against Shawn Michaels most of the time until Michaels' suspension and then Vince decided to give the title to Razor Ramon. Hennig certainly doesn't figure in to the current title situation. He has been talked to by WCW about working Clashes and PPVs a la Hawk. - The Survivor Series did the worst buy rate ever for any WWF PPV at 0.85%, still beating out the recent WCW PPVs. - WCW has Starrcade '93 on 12/27/93 from Charlotte, NC. The line-up is rumoured to include: - Ric Flair vs. Van Vader for the WCW Title in a special stipulation match: Flair will retire if he doesn't win - Davey Boy Smith vs. Rick Rude for the WCW International Title - The Nasty Boys vs. Sting & Hawk for the WCW Tag Titles - Rick Steamboat vs. Lord Steven Regal for the TV Title - Dustin Rhodes vs. Steve Austin for the US Title - Paul Roma & Paul Orndorff vs. 2 Cold Scorpio & Marcus Bagwell - Awesome Kong vs. The Schockmaster - The Equalizer vs. Terry Taylor Don't fret, fans. In a local interview, Ric Flair is quoted as saying that if he is forced to retire, he will continue his Flair For The Gold segments. And you don't believe in Santa Claus! ;-) Rumour has it that Vader will drop the title and then take a holiday from WCW for a little while. - New Japan has the annual beginning of the year show in Tokyo Dome on 01/04/94. The line-up is: - Genichiro Tenryu vs. Antonio Inoki - Tatsumi Fujinami vs. Hulk Hogan - Tatsutoshi Goto vs. Super Strong Machine - Hell Raisers: Kensuke Sasaki & Hawk vs. Jurassic Powers: Hercules & Scott Norton - Jushin Liger vs. Tiger Mask - Keiji Muto & Hiro Hase vs. The Steiners - Osamu Kido & Black Cat & Satoshi Kojima & Manabu Nakanishi & Yuji Nagata vs. Shiro Koshinaka & Kengo Kimura & Great Kabuki & Kuniaki Kobayashi & Michiyoshi Ohara - Takayuki Iizuka & Akira Nogami vs. Masashi Aoyagi & Akitoshi Saito - Shinya Hashimoto vs. Masahiro Chono for the IWGP Title - Riki Choshu vs. Yoshiaki Fujiwara - The WWF has Royal Rumble on 01/22/94 in Providence. Rumoured line-up includes: - Yokozuna vs. The Undertaker for the WWF Title *- The Quebecers vs. Smoking Gunns for the WWF Tag Titles - WCW has SuperBrawl IV on 02/20/94. Rumoured line-up includes: - Ric Flair vs. Big Van Vader in a Thunderdome cage match - Brian Pillman & Sting & Dustin Rhodes vs. Steve Austin & Paul Orndorff Rick Rude - Davey Boy Smith vs. Lord Steven Regal - The WWF has WrestleMania X on 03/20/94 from MSG in New York. - Awards: The fourth annual Usenet Year-End Achievement Awards are currently in the voting stage. This is the last week for votes. They are due in by Friday; I will try to post the results on the weekend. In years gone by, I've had an average of ~40 participants cast ballots; so far this year 69 people have voted and several important categories still have interesting races going on. - Videos: Yesterday, Edmontonian Keith Scott Alan and I got together to watch some stuff on video. I have very little here in Edmonton, but I think it was still a fun afternoon. Highlights included: - the 08/31/93 Steve Williams vs. Kenta Kobashi match. I opted to glance away during the backdrop drivers this time. They are just too brutal. - the 07/31/93 Thunder Queen Battle match between AJW and JWP. I got gleefully loud during Aja Kong's dominant moments in the match. Some of the kicks in those matches were just scary (especially the ones to the head and the ones to the chest while the recipient is in a camel clutch). - the 08/21/93 SF Cow Palace WWF house show. This had a supposed ****1/2 cage match between Yokozuna and Bret Hart. It was pretty good as cage matches go, but I'm still wondering if that rating is really a count of the number of crotch jobs that were in this match. I think Keith Scott questioned the high rating too. Also on this card was another -** "effort" from Giant Gonzalez, in a match against Randy Savage. Words can barely describe how bad this match was. It was followed by Mr. Hughes charging the ring and attacking Savage, who was still waving a chair post-match, Undertaker lumbering in for the save, giving one choke slam and getting the pin for a solid DUD match. - Finally, we watched some 1980-1982 Mid-Atlantic & Georgia wrestling that just brings back all kinds of memory.
