He was charged with two counts of statutory rape, two counts of sodomy and one count of threatening a witness. He has maintained his innocence even on TV, saying that "people who know [him] know [he] is not capable of such actions" (hmmm, could it be the impotence defence?). Lawler and his lawyer are claiming that the case will be thrown out because they claim his accuser has admitted making up the story. But they then went on to plead "not guilty" and post the bail money in court, so their talk seems to only be bravado. Rumours of a pay-off abound and it seems certain that Lawler's reputation will be tarnished whatever happens. - Vince McMahon pleaded "not guilty" to the 3 charges of conspiring to distribute steroids. He was released on $250,000 unsecured bond. A federal indictment alleged that the 47-year-old McMahon and his company, Titan Sports, conspired to distribute the steroids from 1985-1991. He was also charged with illegal possession of steroids with the intent to distribute them. McMahon says, "I'd like to say that sometimes life isn't fair. I believe this is one of those instances." The US government is seeking to seize th $9 million corporate headquarters of Titan Sports, Inc. The government says McMahon used Titan funds to purchase the steroids and US law provides for the seizure of property in drug offences. If convicted he faces 8 years in prison and a $500,000 fine (some reports say a $1-million fine is possible). - Rumours abound that WCW has turfed both Sid Vicious and Arn Anderson as a result of their England melee. Other talk is that Anderson is on the booking sheets for the future. Of course, WCW has made no official statement on the conclusions of their ever-ongoing investigation into the matter. - All the bad-mouthing of Hulk Hogan in recent times by various WWFers (Randy Savage, Bret Hart) have led to more speculation that Hogan will come to WCW. Maybe WCW will give Hogan the NWA belt from Rick Rude and then have a Hogan vs. Ric Flair title unification match? - Despite that angle at the 11/10/93 Clash of Champions, Dusty Rhodes claims he has no plans to return to the ring. - WCW has Starrcade '93 on 12/27/93 from Charlotte, NC. The line-up is rumoured to include: - Ric Flair vs. Van Vader for the WCW Title in a special stipulation match: Flair will retire if he doesn't win (one report says that the loser will leave WCW, but it's probably false) - Sting vs. Rick Rude *- Rick Steamboat vs. Lord Steven Regal *- Dustin Rhodes vs. Steve Austin *- Paul Roma & Paul Orndorff vs. 2 Cold Scorpio & Marcus Bagwell *- Awesome Kong vs. The Schockmaster *- The Equalizer vs. Terry Taylor With Arn Anderson gone, Paul Roma vs. Arn Anderson has been scrapped. It seems likely that the second match will be changed to Rick Rude vs. Davey Boy Smith after the angle in recent times. The print ad for this show arrived in my mail this week and reads: "Vader vs. Vicious (pictures included) Who's the man...who rules the world." Oh well, at least they'll be able to use proper TV ads. - New Japan has the annual beginning of the year show in Tokyo Dome on 01/04/94. The line-up is: - Genichiro Tenryu vs. Antonio Inoki - Tatsumi Fujinami vs. Hulk Hogan - Tatsutoshi Goto vs. Super Strong Machine - Hell Raisers: Kensuke Sasaki & Hawk vs. Jurassic Powers: Hercules & Scott Norton - Jushin Liger vs. Tiger Mask - Keiji Muto & Hiro Hase vs. The Steiners *- Osamu Kido & Black Cat & Satoshi Kojima & Manabu Nakanishi & Yuji Nagata vs. Shiro Koshinaka & Kengo Kimura & Great Kabuki & Kuniaki Kobayashi & Michiyoshi Ohara *- Takayuki Iizuka & Akira Nogami vs. Masashi Aoyagi & Akitoshi Saito *- Shinya Hashimoto vs. Masahiro Chono for the IWGP Title - The WWF has Royal Rumble on 01/22/94 in Providence. Rumoured line-up includes: *- Yokozuna vs. The Undertaker for the WWF Title - WCW has SuperBrawl IV on 02/20/94. Rumoured line-up includes: *- Ric Flair vs. Big Van Vader in a Thunderdome cage match *- Brian Pillman & Sting & Dustin Rhodes vs. Steve Austin & Paul Orndorff Rick Rude *- Davey Boy Smith vs. Lord Steven Regal - The WWF has WrestleMania X on 04/03/94 from MSG in New York. - Awards: The fourth annual Usenet Year-End Achievement Awards are currently in the voting stage. Please try to get your completed ballots submitted in the next couple of weeks. In previous years, I've had on average ~40 participants cast ballots and I would really like to get more than that involved this year. Herb...
