Many details are sure to follow in the weeks to come. Jerry Lawler does maintain his innocence, but the WWF, currently under a federal microscope, had no choice but to turf him. He will be replaced by Shawn Michaels at the Survivor Series PPV next week. After Survivor Series, Michaels is slated to feud with Razor Ramon over who the rightful Intercontinental champ is. There is talk that Sherri Martel will return to the WWF to once again manage Michaels. - As reported last week, WCW has suspended both Sid Vicious and Arn Anderson, pending an investigation of their bloody fight in England. Officially, the investigation is still going on. Reports vary, with one saying that Sid will be retained, and most saying that the locker room talk is that he's gone. After the editing out of Sid's triumphant run-in on WCW Saturday Night this past week, one has to conclude that Sid being history is more likely. Of course, Sid would be unable to work the Orlando tapings, so even if he was being kept on, it might be prudent to remove the babyface push that they were working towards. There are some in character quotes from Arn in the paper: "I have really tried to do the right thing as of late. But the Arn Anderson that everybody grew up on - the Arn Anderson that would bash his granny in the back of the head with a chair for fifty cents - has gotta come back to the surface. I've always had that shade of evil lingering inside me and you gotta fight fire with fire." I just like the quote and can picture AA saying the words. He must be hinting at the scheduled feud with Paul Roma that may or may not occur thanks to the incident in England. - The Toronto Star once again reports that Greg Valentine is back in the WWF. The story is nearly identical to last week, except that this time Madusa is identified as Valentine's girlfriend and not as his wife. - The Star also reports that Rowdy Piper is being talked to about having a match against Lex Luger. My inference is that this is an attempt to mimmick the "Ultimate Warrior effect" by having Luger beat a well-known babyface to give him some much-needed stature and I'm pretty doubtful, considering the source. - The reason that the Hawk vs. Rick Rude match at the 11/10/93 Clash had no work in it is that Hawk blew out his knee nine days earlier in a match in New Japan. He kept his commitment and worked on the bum knee. - Matt Borne, the first Doink, has left the WWF and is working the indies. - Talk in one of "local" wrestling columns has Bret Hart being unpopular amongst his peers, due to Hart's enormous ego (displayed many times recently in discussions about Ric Flair, who most wrestlers generally view as the best guy to work with). Hart's growing ego outside of the ring has sparked talk that he will turn heel again in the future. Hart is in the process of renegotiating his WWF contract. - The Undertaker is on the cover of the 1994 WWF Calendar. Big deal? Well, many people are figuring that that means that Vince thinks the Undertaker is the number one babyface in the company, which leads to speculation of UT winning the WWF Title. - WCW has Battle Bowl on PPV on 11/20/93. Names of 40 wrestlers will be thrown into a hopper and 32 names will be drawn to compete in 8 tag matches with the pairings as drawn. The 16 men who win their tag matches will advance to a battle royal (they haven't advertised this as a two-ring battle royal), with the winner getting the 3rd annual Battle Bowl ring. The PPV will start 1.5 hours later than the usual 7pm EST. There is one thing we could have expected from this show. On the WCW SN TV show that airs after the PPV, Arn Anderson talks about Paul Roma betraying him. It would seem that the betrayal was scheduled to take place at Battle Bowl. Of course, with Arn out of the mix, Dusty might have to get creative if he still wants to go with the betrayal storyline, maybe having Roma "betray" Ric Flair. - The WWF has Survivor Series on PPV on 11/24/93 in Boston. The line-up looks like this: - Team USA: Lex Luger & Steiners & Undertaker vs. Team Foreign Scum: Ludvig Borga & Yokozuna & Quebeckers - Rick Martel & Diesel & Adam Bomb & I.R.S. vs. Razor Ramon & Marty Janetty & Curt Hennig & 1-2-3 Kid - R'n'R Express: Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson vs. Heavenly Bodies: Tom Prichard & Jimmy del Ray for the SMW Titles - Team Doink: 4 Doinks vs. Team Booger: Bastion Booger & Bam Bam Bigelow & Headshrinkers - Team Hart: Bret Hart & Owen Hart & Bruce Hart & Keith Hart vs. Team Boy-toy: Shawn Michaels & 3 Knights (three masked men) Rumours still vary about the identity of some of the participants in the above matches. The 4 Doinks now look to be Steve Lombardi, Phil Apollo, and the Bushwhackers. The 3 Knights might be picked from Jeff Jarrett, Terry Funk, Del Rios, Glenn Jacobs, and Brian Costello. - WCW has Starrcade '93 on 12/27/93 from Charlotte, NC. The line-up is rumoured to include: - Ric Flair vs. Van Vader for the WCW Title in a special stipulation match: Flair will retire if he doesn't win - Sting vs. Rick Rude - Arn Anderson vs. Paul Roma - New Japan has the annual beginning of the year show in Tokyo Dome on 01/04/94. The line-up is: - Genichiro Tenryu vs. Antonio Inoki - Tatsumi Fujinami vs. Hulk Hogan - Tatsutoshi Goto vs. Super Strong Machine - Hell Raisers: Kensuke Sasaki & Hawk vs. Jurassic Powers: Hercules & Scott Norton - Jushin Liger vs. Tiger Mask - Keiji Muto & Hiro Hase vs. The Steiners - The WWF has Royal Rumble on 01/22/94 in Providence. - The WWF has WrestleMania X on 04/03/94 from MSG in New York.
