Newsgroups: rec.sport.pro-wrestling From: hekunze@jeeves.uwaterloo.ca (Herb Kunze) Subject: Wrestling TidBits - 11/11 Message-ID: Sender: news@watdragon.uwaterloo.ca (USENET News System) Organization: University of Waterloo Date: Thu, 11 Nov 1993 19:30:30 GMT Lines: 155 - As many details as we could possibly expect to get from the England brawl between Arn Anderson & Sid Vicious were reported in the current Observer. The stories pretty much jibed with what was reported here, including the variations of Sid going to Arn's hotel room to apologize and being attacked by Arn and Sid claiming that he wanted to apologize to Arn and then whacking Arn with a weapon when Arn opened his door. As already mentioned on the net, Anderson lost 1.5 pints of blood and almost lost an eye. 2 Cold Scorpio broke up the ruckus. The location of the different stab wounds on both wrestlers varies with different reports, but most of the wounds were only a 1/2-inch deep because the scissors were quite blunt. - Some pseudo-interesting observations from WCW Clash of Champions XXV that took place last night: - Gene Okerlund told Colonel Rob Parker that he saw a 6'9" blond man in the washroom before the show (from which we should infer that it was Sid Vicious) and Parker went crazy, saying that he had a restraining order so that Sid couldn't be in the building. Jesse Ventura then said something like "Sid doesn't have the guts...to violate a restraining order," which has to be taken as a kay fabe comment about psycho Sid's confrontations with Brian Pillman and Arn Anderson. Clearly, Gene's description fits Hulk Hogan quite well and this could be the beginning of hinting at his arrival in WCW. Rumour has the contract signed and recent WWF actions of bashing Hogan and dropping him from the ads for a tour of Israel add some credence to it. - Tony Schiavone almost called Colonel Rob Parker Sergeant Buddy Lee Parker. - Sid Vicious was referred to by name many times during the broadcast. You see, WCW had taped their Saturday Night TV brodcasts for all of November and Sid is all over them. His babyface turn is the focal point of the November storyline. Word has it that WCW planned to have Sid unify the WCW & NWA (er, World) Heavyweight Titles and then build the company around this oh-so-reliable guy. On this week's WCW SN show the main event is supposed to be Sid & Ric Flair vs. Vader & Steve Austin. This is the match where the Awesome Kongs (also managed by Harley Race) destroy Sid pre-match; Flair & Arn Anderson then work against Flair & Vader in what Meltzer reported as a ***3/4 match; Sid runs in for the DQ finish with his ribs taped up. While they can probably edit out future appearances of Sid (he squashes one of the Kongs a week later) and, luckily, they begin taping new World Wide shows in Orlando today so Sid isn't featured in pre-taped storylines on those shows, I don't know how they can work around Sid running-in at the end of this tag match (they could edit out the pre-match beating by the Kongs, I would assume). - The question remains: is Sid gone or is he still recovering from the brawl with Arn and couldn't appear at the Clash? Clearly, he was supposed to run-in at the end of the show and save Flair from the Vader & Austin team. It was also rumoured that he was going to be a factor in the finish of Austin vs. Pillman earlier on the show, teaming with Pillman in some upcoming matches (I know, I know, many squeegee jokes come to mind). I guess after Saturday's show (and hopefully by then we'll know something about the World Wide tapings) we'll know what the story is. - I remember when Gary & Curtis & I watched Vader do his first moonsault months ago. Gary immediately said that now nobody would think Vader worked a good match unless he did the moonsault. I thought that was funny and yet we now see Vader do a moonsault in ever big match and everybody on the net seems to expect the move to be pulled out in the big matches. - I though Vader vs. Flair and Pillman vs. Austin were very good, especially considering the time limitations they faced on a packed show. Rhodes vs. Orndorff wasn't too bad either. Sting & Johnny B. Badd also did some pretty good work, limited by the booking. I guess the screw job endings pissed some people off, but they certainly whetted my appetite for rematches of Vader vs. Flair and Pillman vs. Austin. - During Pillman vs. Austin, just prior to finish as Pillman backs Austin into the ropes, you can hear Brian call the next spot. Ooops. - A report in the Toronto Star has Hulk Hogan blaming peer pressure for his taking steroids. Hogan says that before 1966 (when Hogan was 13) they were legal and that he felt a lot of peer pressure in the 60s, 70s and 80s to take them. - The Toronto Star also reports that Greg Valenting is back in the WWF. It goes on to say that Greg will be bringing his wife Madusa into the WWF as well, but based on TV tapings in which both took part, they will not be paired together. - Newslines were busy the past couple of weeks with stories about the federal investigation into the WWF's steroid abuse in recent years gone by. "The grand jury investigation is focusing on Vince McMahon Jr., the principal owner of the WWF and Titan Sports Inc., a WWF subsidiary that markets Hulk Hogan dolls and other products," New York Newsday wrote. It's old news but "during [Dr. George] Zahorian's trial, evidence was presented that showed hundreds of shipments from his office to wrestlers and others. Prosecutors claim the shipments contained steroids. Thirty-seven of the shipments, which prosecutors claim contained steroids, were sent to WWF and Titan headquarters and nine of those bore McMahon's name." Rumours now have it that Vince McMahon won't survive this investigation and that plans are already afoot to have him removed from the WWF picture in every way (presumably leaving Linda McMahon in charge officially). - Curt Hennig had to no-show some matches a week ago when his father Larry "The Ax" took ill and Curt rushed off to Robbinsdale, MN, to be at his father's side. At the house shows, they announced Curt as being absent due to "family problems." If memory serves, Curt was replaced by Owen Hart in Toronto, so Owen scored wins over Rick Martel in his scheduled match, beat Diesel when substituting for Hennig, and then ran in on Bret Hart vs. Jerry Lawler after a Knight interfered. - WCW has Battle Bowl on PPV on 11/20/93. Names of 40 wrestlers will be thrown into a hopper and 32 names will be drawn to compete in 8 tag matches with the pairings as drawn. The 16 men who win their tag matches will advance to a battle royal, with the winner getting the 3rd annual Battle Bowl ring. The PPV will start 1.5 hours later than the usual 7pm EST. - The WWF has Survivor Series on PPV on 11/24/93 in Boston. The line-up looks like this: - Team USA: Lex Luger & Steiners & Undertaker vs. Team Foreign Scum: Ludvig Borga & Yokozuna & Quebeckers - Rick Martel & Diesel & Adam Bomb & I.R.S. vs. Razor Ramon & Marty Janetty & Curt Hennig & 1-2-3 Kid - R'n'R Express: Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson vs. Heavenly Bodies: Tom Prichard & Jimmy del Ray for the SMW Titles - Team Doink: 4 Doinks vs. Team Booger: Bastion Booger & Bam Bam Bigelow & Headshrinkers - Team Hart: Bret Hart & Owen Hart & Bruce Hart & Keith Hart vs. Team Lawler: Jerry Lawler & 3 Knights (three masked men) Rumours vary about the identity of some of the participants in the above matches. The 4 Doinks will almost certainly be Matt Borne, Steve Lombardi and a couple of other white chubby guys. A recent rumour has the 3 Knights being Del Rios, Jeff Jarrett and Terry Funk. Take that with a big grain of salt. - WCW has Starrcade '93 on 12/27/93 from Charlotte, NC. The line-up is rumoured to include: - Sid Vicious vs. Van Vader - Sting vs. Rick Rude - Nasty Boys vs. Ric Flair & Rick Steamboat - Arn Anderson vs. Paul Roma Things are really up in the air over this card. The rumoured main event is now Vader vs. Ric Flair, which would alter two of the matches listed above. - New Japan has the annual beginning of the year show in Tokyo Dome on 01/04/94. The line-up might include: - Genichiro Tenryu vs. Antonio Inoki - The WWF has Royal Rumble on 01/22/94 in Providence. - The WWF has WrestleMania X on 04/03/94 from MSG in New York. Herb...
