Since they already had a non-title victory for Scorpio & Bagwell in the can to air this week or next one can only assume that this was a title shot re-match with the titles changing hands. I guess this is supposed to add some fuel to the title match between these teams at Halloween Havoc on 10/24. - Gene Okerlund will debut in front of the camera in WCW in the first week of November. The WWF won't let him out of his contract any earlier. He will be working behind the scenes before that (presumably on updating the 900 phone line). - The next Orlando tapings for WCW will take place from 11/11/93 through 11/14/93. - Tom Zenk and Brad Armstrong were given short term contracts by WCW. - Hulk Hogan is certainly being friendly with the stars of WCW. He appeared at Ric Flair's gym in Charlotte and has also had Sting over to his home and given the Stinger a role in an upcoming episode of his syndicated TV show "Thunder in Paradise." I guess Sting's beach experience with midget sharks and exploding boats came in handing. Speaking of "Thunder in Paradise," I was confused to see a "new video releases" ad saying that the video of the show was available for rental now. - The local paper had an article on Hulk Hogan, talking about "Mr. Nanny" mostly. The only interesting bit read as follows: "Steroid use is a subject one might figure Hogan would shy away from. But he's not afraid to talk. `Thank God it all came out! Everybody was really ignorant about it, and in the States you had the American Medical Association and the Food and Drug Administration saying it was legal until 1988. `Now they've woken up about what all this stuff can do - including things like breast implants for women. When you have a situation where something is legal, individuals not only use, they abuse. `In my situation, because it was legal and I was on the road 365 days a year, it was convenient to heal an injury or keep size on. `For me, it was just like Ben Johnson, when it became illegal - they picked the top dog. I took the hit but still turned the negative into a positive, because when it became illegal, I stopped.' Hogan's experience with steroids becomes another positive for him in educating young people. `When parents or kids ask me about it, I tell them it's nothing but a short cut and, if you use them, you'll get hurt. `Besides, when you give kids the truth, they can be darn smart about making the right choices.'" That's the most interesting excerpt from the article. I guess I don't have to point out that Hogan's claim of legally using steroids all those years are a big stretch of the truth. - The Steiners were at the WWF TV taping on Tuesday. They are still not working the house shows, but are expected to work at Survivor Series, with the WWF saying that they'll be back full time then. Apparent locker room talk has the Steiners being very unhappy and wanting out of the promotion. Meltzer reported that there may in fact not be a suspension involved in the Steiners not working house dates. The Steiners have been replaced by Adam Bomb & Bam Bam Bigelow in matches against the Quebeckers at the house shows. To clear up any confusion this might cause (with Johnny Polo managing three of the guys), it looks like Harvey Whippleman has taken over managing Adam Bomb. - Lex Luger has returned to the WWF after recovering somewhat from his back injury. Apparently, Lex isn't doing anything in the ring that could strain his back. That leaves him with one hell of an impressive arsenal, doesn't it? - After that set-up which some netters seemed to love, the Yokozuna vs. Undertaker program has been taken to some house shows. The first series of matches have Yokozuna getting a screw-job win over Undertaker. This sets up the November house shows, with coffin matches between the two. The fact that Vince is going to let this develop into a series of return matches at the house shows seems to imply that there is no title change planned between these two. At least, that's the usual operating procedure. - New Japan looks to be setting up Hulk Hogan vs. Antonio Inoki for the Tokyo Dome show in the new year. Boy, that should be exciting. - WCW has Halloween Havoc on PPV on 10/24/93 from New Orleans. Tentative line-up includes: - Big Van Vader vs. Cactus Jack in a "Spin the Wheel, Make The Deal" match - Nasty Boys vs. 2 Cold Scorpio & Marcus Bagwell for the Tag Titles - Rick Rude vs. Ric Flair for the World Championship - Sting vs. Sid Vicious - Dustin Rhodes vs. Steve Austin for the US Title *- Steve Regal vs. Ricky Steamboat for the TV Title - WCW has Clash of Champions XXVI on 11/17/93 from Tampa. The Road Warriors are scheduled to appear. - WCW has the Lethal Lottery on PPV on 11/20/93 and Starrcade just after Christmas. Van Vader vs. Sid Vicious is the rumoured main event at Starrcade. - The WWF has Survivor Series on PPV on 11/24/93 in Boston. Tentative line-up includes: - Team USA: Lex Luger & Steiners & Tatanta vs. Team Foreign Scum: Ludvig Borga & Yokozuna & Quebeckers *- Rick Martel & Diesel & Adam Bomb & I.R.S. vs. Razor Ramon & Marty Janetty & Curt Hennig & 1-2-3 Kid Bruce Hart is expected to appear at the show.
