Newsgroups: rec.sport.pro-wrestling From: hekunze@jeeves.uwaterloo.ca (Herb Kunze) Subject: Wrestling TidBits - 09/23 Message-ID: Sender: news@watdragon.uwaterloo.ca (USENET News System) Organization: University of Waterloo Date: Thu, 23 Sep 1993 23:05:18 GMT Lines: 93 - Bret Hart will be a special guest on the Toronto talk show "The Dini Petty Show" at the 09/30/93 taping. I believe the show airs throughout Canada on the CTV network. - Despite postings to the contrary, word is that Jim Cornette's application for NWA membership will be accepted eventually. SMW will have to recognize the NWA champ as the world champion, which is clearly a sticky proposition at the moment with Cornette managing the WWF world champion. As soon as the WWF-SMW relationship ends, we can expect Cornette to join the NWA. It will be interesting to see if the NWA name can re-capture some of its former esteem if a group of promoters get together and honour the NWA world champion. - Gene Okerlund was supposed to start with WCW already, but the WWF is enforcing its contract with Gene which says that there has to be a gap between the time he leaves the WWF and the time he starts working with a competitor. But he is coming to WCW. - A while back, Del Wilkes (aka. The Patriot) worked a try-out for the WWF using a magician gimmick. It looks like Wilkes will be brought in, maybe after the next PPV, with this gimmick. He's left All Japan and will debut with the gimmick in the USWA. And for Andy's sake, two Americans, The Patriot & The Eagle, dropped the All Asian tag belts to a Canadian & an American, Dan Kroffat & Doug Furnas. And don't forget that Hansen & DiBiase have the PWF & AJ Int Tag Titles and Kroffat has the PWF Jr. belt. Only the Triple Crown is held by a Japanese wrestler. ;-) - Jimmy Snuka is back in the WWF. Hey, don't everybody get so excited. - Is this what happens before an IC Title push? The 1-2-3 Kid is jobbing for Doink at the house shows. With Doink turning face down the road, you'd think they'd follow the standard procedure of having him job at the houses. - Remember that really good video segment taped in a "restaurant" with Tony Schiavone interviewing Ric Flair? I guessed they liked that idea at WCW too because they are repeating it with Tony this time interviewing the Shockmaster. Of course, the Shockmaster knocks his drink over, soaking Schiavone. - WCW has Halloween Havoc on PPV on 10/24/93. Tentative line-up includes: - Big Van Vader vs. Cactus Jack in a "Spin the Wheel, Make The Deal" match *- Nasty Boys vs. 2 Cold Scorpio & Marcus Bagwell for the Tag Titles *- Rick Rude vs. Ric Flair for the World Championship - Sting vs. Sid Vicious *- Dustin Rhodes vs. Steve Austin for the US Title *- Steve Regal vs. Dustin Rhodes for the TV Title 2 Cold Scorpio & Marcus Bagwell will get a non-title win on TV before the PPV to set things up. With Brian Pillman still out, they had to come up with some singles storyline for Steve Austin, which will see him pushed to a title shot here. - WCW has Clash of Champions XXVI on 11/17/93 from Tampa. I guess that this kills and more talk about the rumoured Clash from England just one week later. - WCW has the Lethal Lottery on PPV on 11/20/93 and Starrcade just after Christmas. - The WWF has Survivor Series on PPV on 11/24/93 in Boston. Tentative line-up would seem to include: - Team USA: Lex Luger & Steiners & ? (Jim Duggan?) vs. Team Foreign Scum: Ludvig Borga & Yokozuna & Quebeckers - UWFi from Japan will run a shoot-style PPV which will air in North America on 12/05/93. This will feature Van Vader vs. Nobuhiko Takada on top for the UWFi heavyweight title. - Mailing List: I've received many notes this week from people asking to be added to my e-mail distribution list. As I posted a couple of weeks back, I won't be e-mailing my weekly post while I'm in Edmonton. Computer access here is nowhere near what I'm used to in Waterloo and I just don't have the time to do all the maintenance involved. - Videos: I thought I should mention that I did watch the 6 hour Monday Night Raw tape that the RAW guy, Christopher Zimmerman, sent me. I just haven't had time to post a review of it and with the combination of my workload and the computer situation here, it might take me a while to find the time. I did pass the tape on to Curtis (ducks to avoid further expletives from the Fluffster).
