There will probably be a break of one week in my posting schedule at that time while I arrange net access there and get settled in. } - WCW Clash of Champions XXIV will be rebroadcast Friday (08/27) night. - The WWF has SummerSlam on Monday, 08/30/93. Match line-up: - Yokozuna vs. Lex Luger for the WWF Title - Jerry Lawler vs. Bret Hart to decide the King of the WWF - Shawn Michaels vs. Curt Hennig for the IC Title - Steiners vs. Heavenly Bodies for the Tag Titles - Undertaker vs. Giant Gonzales in an "R.I.P. match" - 1-2-3 Kid vs. I.R.S. - Razor Ramon vs. Ted DiBiase - Headshrinkers & Bam Bam Bigelow vs. Tatanka & Smoking Gunns - Ludvig Borga vs. Marty Janetty - Adam Bomb vs. Tito Santana (dark match) After the Undertaker's description of an "R.I.P. match" on this past weekend's syndies, we still have no clue what the match stipulations are. The Heavenly Bodies have taped interviews for SMW television demanding a rematch for the WWF tag titles in "neutral" territory, which I guess means that we know the ending to their SummerSlam match. Diesel has been pinning Curt Hennig at the house shows in the elimination tag matches with Hennig & Razor Ramon vs. Diesel & Shawn Michaels. I suppose that this booking and a screwy finish at SummerSlam will help set up the Hennig vs. Diesel program and free Michaels up to defend the title against the 1-2-3 Kid. - I first mentioned a couple of weeks back that Terry Taylor would be brought in as the fourth Horsemen (along with Ric Flair, Arn Anderson and Paul Roma). Now, the current Observer reports the same thing, adding even more credence to the rumour. - Hawk has appeared (or is that will appear?) at WCW TV tapings for November television, which has to piss off Paul E. Dangerously. Road Warrior Animal will be able to return to wrestling in 02/94 and talk is that he and Hawk will reunite as the Road Warriors in WCW at that time. - WCW has the Fall Brawl PPV on 09/19/93 at 7:00pm EST from Houston. Tentative matches include: - Ric Flair vs. Rick Rude for the NWA Title - Sid Vicious & Van Vader & Harlem Heat vs. Dustin Rhodes & Davey Boy Smith & Sting & Shockmaster in a Wargames match *- Cactus Jack vs. Yoshi Kwan This weekend's WCW Saturday Night had Tony Schiavone mention during the first match that Hawk would be on the face team at Fall Brawl. A few minutes later during the Fall Brawl Control Center, Chris Cruise reported that Shockmaster would be the fourth man. Nice to see them pay such close attention while editing out Hawk's name from the TV broadcasts. Cruise mentioned that Shockmaster made "quite an entrance" at the Clash. The cable advertisement for the show (which had to be submitted a couple of months in advance) has a picture of Hawk on the face team instead of the Shockmaster. The photo caption reads Harlem Heat for that tag team but the descriptive text in the ad says the heel team is "Big Van Vader, Sid Vicious and The Ebony Nightmares." Compare this to the WWF ad for SummerSlam which outlines nothing about the show because Vince knew that Hulk Hogan was a variable. The SummerSlam cable ad reads "Japan's 505-pound grand champion Yokozuna has been on a rampage across North America. Who will stop him? Can anyone? See SummerSlam to find out!" I suppose we can argue which approach of advertising is better. - UWFi from Japan will run a shoot-style PPV which will air in North America on 10/05/93. - WCW has Halloween Havoc on PPV on 10/24/93 (tentative date). Tentative line-up includes: - Big Van Vader vs. Cactus Jack in a "Spin the Wheel, Make The Deal" match - Nasty Boys vs. Ric Flair & Paul Roma for the Tag Titles - Sting vs. Sid Vicious - WCW has the Lethal Lottery on PPV on 11/21/93 and Starrcade just after Christmas. - The WWF has Survivor Series on PPV on 11/25/93 in Boston. Tentative line-up includes: - Team USA: Lex Luger & Steiners & ? (Jim Duggan?) vs. Team Foreign Scum: Ludvig Borga & Yokozuna & ? (Nikolai Volkoff?) - WCW will supposedly run a Clash live from Wembley Stadium in London, England, on 11/25/93 starting at 8:00pm London time. This means that the show will air here on WTBS at 3:00 pm on Thanksgiving. - E-mail TidBits: If your site has a slow feed or you don't read news frequently enough and you want to get this posting as e-mail every week, send me e-mail saying so. - Videos: I had the chance to watch a two-hour handheld of most of the New Japan 06/14/93 house show. This show featured the finals of the Top of The Super Junior tournament, with El Samurai facing Pegasus Kid (Chris Benoit, working without the mask in the same garb he wears in WCW) in the final match. Including the ring entrances, the match took up about 25:30 of tape time. The traded mat holds early on before turning up the pace for the final 10 minutes or so. Samurai did the somersault tope that Jushin Riger always does and Benoit did a beautiful plancha off the top turnbuckle to the floor, travelling three-quarters the length of the ring in the air before hitting Samurai. Benoit then did a dragon suplex; Samurai kicked out. Northern lights suplex; Samurai kicked out. Samurai rallied and slipped out of another dragon suplex attempt and got a surprise roll-up; Benoit kicked out. Samurai set Benoit on the top rope and did a Frankensteiner off the top; Benoit kicked out. Power bomb; Benoit kicked out. Belly-to-back superplex (with a brutal-looking bump by Benoit); Benoit kicked out. Samurai then set things up for a "standard" superplex and seemed to want to make it a fisherman superplex (ie. a perfectplex off the top rope), but, with both guys already standing on the top rope, Benoit managed to sneak around and get his body on top of Samurai's. Benoit immediately delivered a top rope power bomb and got the pin. The crowd went berzerk yelling "Kid-O" while Benoit shook off the cobwebs and collected his trophy and cheque. Also, as I mentioned in another post, I had the chance to see the Terry Funk vs. Atsushi Onita barbed wire explosive match from 05/05/93. The real highlight of that show, though, was Sabu's performance. He and the Sheik faced Dr. Looser & Dr. Hannibal Lecter (who do the exact smae gimmick it seems). The match was typical for Sheik & Sabu, with Sheik brawling and gouging one guy to shreds outside the ring while Sabu dazzled in the ring with all the highspots. The finish had Sabu get a ringside table and drape one of the doctors on it with a clothesline for good measure. Sabu then did a moonsault onto the table at ringside, landing crossways on the table and busting it. His knee hit the doctor square in the head and knocked him out legit, so the match ended quickly after that. After the match, Sabu pulled another table into the ring and set it up. He did a moonsault onto it and then did a butt drop off the top onto it while the crowd cheered wildly. The ref raised Sabu's hand for winning his match with the table.
