There is an uncomfirmed rumour here that Marty Janetty played the Japanese photographer that blinded Hogan. I guess that now that he's lost the title again, Hogan is one better than immortal. - Biggest rumour this week is that Hawk & Animal have been convinced into returning to the WWF as the Legion of Doom. Apparently, Hawk's partner in New Japan, Kensuke Sasaki, has suffered an injury that will sideline him for a while, freeing Hawk up. - Good to see Sid Vicious hasn't lost his touch. In his first match back, at Slamboree, he managed to injure his opponent, Van Hammer. - Observer reports that the WWF has struck a deal with a concert promotions company in Japan to put on WWF-only house shows in Japan. Meltzer says that Hogan can't be part of the WWF-only shows because of his deal with New Japan; but if he's gone from the company that's irrelevant. The problem is that outside of Bam Bam Bigelow, Owen Hart, and the Steiners, nobody in the company really means anything in Japan (Meltzer actually only mentions Bigelow and Undertaker as meaning something). Funny that at the KotR PPV, Bam Bam just happened to get pushed all the way to the final of the tourney and that he actually got to work. - WCW has a Clash of Champions scheduled for 06/17/93 (tonight for most people reading this) at 8:05pm EST from the Norfolk Scope, in Norfolk, VA. The show will be rebroadcasted on 06/25/93 at 10:35pm EST. The tentative Clash line-up is: - Vinnie Vegas vs. Jim Neidhart - Marcus Bagwell vs. Lord Steve (Regal) *- Maxx Payne vs. Johnny B. Badd - Paul Orndorff vs. Ron Simmons for the WCW TV Title in a 20-minute time limit match - Barry Windham vs. 2 Cold Scorpio for the NWA Title - Brian Pillman & Steve Austin vs. Ric Flair & Arn Anderson in a two-out-of-three fall match for the Tag Titles - Sting & Davey Boy Smith & Dustin Rhodes vs. Van Vader & Sid Vicious & Rick Rude No word on if Vinnie Vegas, who has appeared as Shawn Michaels' bodyguard Diesel in the WWF, will work the show or not. One would guess not. He was featured in matches on the WCW shows this past weekend, but that could just be the usual laziness from the company. Looking at the line-up for Beach Blast (below), it isn't hard to guess at the endings of some of the above matches. - WCW has this year's Beach Blast PPV on 07/18/93 from Gulfport, MS. Rumoured matches include: - Sting & Davey Boy Smith vs. Van Vader & Sid Vicious - Ric Flair vs. Barry Windham for the NWA Title - Rick Rude vs. Dustin Rhodes to decide the vacant US Title *- Arn Anderson & Paul Roma vs. Brian Pillman & Steve Austin for the Tag Titles - The WWF has SummerSlam on 08/30/93. The tentative main even of Hulk Hogan vs. Bret Hart for the WWF Title seems unlikely, with talk of Hogan leaving the WWF persisting. I guess that Hart vs. Yokozuna for the WWF Title seems the most likely. - Update on the New Japan Top of The Super Junior round robin tournament: C E D L D J M C E S N B S F K M R O S G O H Score Chris Benoit \ W W L W L W L 4 El Samurai L \ W L W L W 3 David Finlay L \ L L L W W W W 4 Lightning Kid W \ W L L W L 3 Dean Malenko L L \ W W L W 3 Jushin Riger W W W L \ W 4 Masao Orihara L W W \ 2 2 Cold Scorpio W L L W L \ L W 3 Eddie Guerrero W L L W W \ W 4 Shinjiro Otani L L L L L L \ L 0 Norio Honaga W L W L W \ 3 The finals have already taken place, with Chris Benoit winning the whole shebang, but complete match results for the final week have not yet been published in the Observer. - WCW has a Clash of Champions scheduled for 09/93 from Roanoke. - E-mail TidBits: If your site has a slow feed or you don't read news frequently enough and you want to get this posting as e-mail every week, send me e-mail saying so. - Videos: The compilation tapes (Japan 1981-1983 & Japan 1984-1987) are now available. Along with the morbid interest of seeing Great Muta vs. Hulk Hogan from the 05/03/93 Fukuoka Dome show this past weekend, I also had the pleasure of seeing the Mitsuhara Misawa vs. Toshiaki Kawada match from 03/27/93 from the Champion Carnival singles tourney. Matches like this re-affirm my belief that people who complain about seeing the same guys fight each other many times just haven't seen wrestling of this calibre. This match was phenomenal, with Kawada being brutally stiff, and even better than their title match from 10/21/92.
