He seems to use the 20-million households estimate for the size of the PPV universe. This would give between 60000-80000 orders for the show at $24.95 each. Of that gross, WCW gets 40% which works out to between $600000 and $800000 (the figure that Meltzer reports). This isn't the lowest sum of money for WCW from a PPV, though, because the price was a little higher than some of their other shows. - The WWF has the "King of the Ring" PPV on Sunday. The card will feature an 8-man tournament to determine who's the King of the Ring. The tourney line-up is: Bret Hart --\ |--\ Razor Ramon --/ \ |---\ Mr. Hughes --\ / \ |--/ \ Curt Hennig --/ \ |--- King of The Ring Jim Duggan --\ / |--\ / Bam Bam Bigelow --/ \ / |---/ Lex Luger --\ / |--/ Tatanka --/ Also on the card: - Hulk Hogan vs. Yokozuna for the WWF Title (rumoured that Mr. Fuji will not be present at ringside, but that Jimmy Hart and Brutus Beefcake will be; Beefcake will trim Yokozuna's hair after he loses the match; New Japan referee Tiger Hattori will be special referee) - Ted DiBiase & I.R.S. & Headshrinkers vs. Steiners & Smoking Gunns *- Shawn Michaels vs. Crush for the IC Title Last week's report turned out to be quite true, with Shawn Michaels regaining the IC Title from Marty Janetty. The rest of that report said that the last match above would then become a title match. - As reported on the net, Vince officially passed on the presidency of the United States, err, Titan Sports, to his wife Hillary, err, Linda. Former ringboy Tom Cole, who sparked most of the heat that Vince felt over the homosexual harassment charges a little more than one year ago, was brought back into the fold by McMahon at some point late in the scandal but has now broken away again and has filed a lawsuit against Titan Sports again. Vince remains the CEO and chairman of Titan Sports and will still do TV commentary. The local paper quotes Jack Tunney saying "[Vince] is still the leader. It was strictly an internal matter." - Adam Bomb is in for a big push after the King of The Ring PPV is over. - Nasty Boys are apparently history with the WWF. Their suspension has turned into a firing. - A couple of weeks ago, we were wondering if the Owen Hart vs. Mike Shaw (aka Makhan Singh, Norman, etc.) matches slated for the WWF house show undercards in the upcoming month could possibly be at the **** level that these two have worked against each other. Now that we know that Mike Shaw will be working a gargoyle gimmick as Sebastian Booger, there seems to be less doubt about the level of these upcoming matches. - WCW has a Clash of Champions scheduled for 06/17/93 at 8:05pm EST from the Norfolk Scope, in Norfolk, VA. The show will be rebroadcasted on 06/25/93 at 10:35pm EST. The tentative Clash line-up is: - Vinnie Vegas vs. Jim Neidhart - Marcus Bagwell vs. Lord Steve (Regal) - Paul Orndorff vs. Ron Simmons for the WCW TV Title in a 20-minute time limit match - Barry Windham vs. 2 Cold Scorpio for the NWA Title - Brian Pillman & Steve Austin vs. Ric Flair & Arn Anderson in a two-out-of-three fall match for the Tag Titles *- Sting & Davey Boy Smith & Dustin Rhodes vs. Van Vader & Sid Vicious & Rick Rude - WCW has this year's Beach Blast PPV on 07/11/93 from Gulfport, MS. Rumoured matches include: - Sting & Davey Boy Smith vs. Van Vader & Sid Vicious - Ric Flair vs. Barry Windham for the NWA Title *- Rick Rude vs. Dustin Rhodes to decide the vacant US Title I have the difficult decision of choosing between ordering this PPV or going to Toronto to see the WWF in Maple Leaf Gardens. Gee, Flair vs. Barry or Duggan vs. Yokozuna, which to pick? - The WWF has SummerSlam in 08/30/93 with a tentative main event of Hulk Hogan vs. Bret Hart for the WWF Title. Talk now is that Vince is going to go to the safe main event here instead: Hogan vs. Lex Luger. Maybe we'll have a feel for things once the King of The Ring is over. - The Observer has some match reports that probably fit into New Japan's Top of The Super Junior tourney. The tourney matches take place on the tour that runs from 05/25 to 06/15. There were some match reports from 05/26 and 06/01. I'm still not sure about all the players in the tourney (looks like Tiger Mask and Norio Honaga aren't in and it is a 10 man tourney), but it looks like we have something like this, where "L" means loss, "W" means win, and "D" would mean draw (if they occur). The horizontal entry should be read first (i.e. Lightning Kid won against Dave Finlay; correspondingly, Dave Finlay lost against LK). Hope this makes sense: C E D L D J M C E S B S F K M R O S G O Chris Benoit \ W W El Samurai L \ W David Finlay \ L W Lightning Kid W \ L Dean Malenko \ W Jushin Riger L \ Masao Orihara L \ 2 Cold Scorpio W \ Eddie Guerrero L \ Shinjiro Otani L \ - Meltzer reports that midget wrestler Tiger Jackson will become the "Little Hulkster" and basically mimmick the "Big Hulkster." I think that means that he'll forget about improving his wrestling ability, take physique-enhancing drugs but praise natural vitamins and training, never ever job, and demand a title before appearing on camera. Actually, it probably means that he'll get demolished by Hogan's next rival following Yokozuna (or perhaps Yokosuna himself?). - WCW has a Clash of Champions scheduled for 09/93 from Roanoke. - E-mail TidBits: If your site has a slow feed or you don't read news frequently enough and you want to get this posting as e-mail every week, send me e-mail saying so. - Videos: As I posted earlier in the week, the matches for both tapes (Japan 1981-1983, Japan 1984-1987) have been decided and I'm in the process of making the master tapes (one down, one to go). When that's done, I'll post an announcement about the availability of those tapes and other tapes in my collection.
