Advertised as the night of the legends of wrestling, this is the PPV that will unveil WCW's Hall of Fame. Slated to appear: Ivan Koloff, Verne Gagne, Greg Gagne, Johnny Valentine, Dusty Rhodes, Magnum TA, Mike Graham, Ole Anderson, Moolah, Blackjack Mulligan, Wahoo McDaniel, Red Bastien, Mr. Wrestling II, Dory Funk Jr., Don Muraco, Lou Thesz, Harley Race, John Tolos, Dick Murdoch, Ox Baker, Jimmy Snuka, Jim Brunzell, Thunderbolt Patterson, Da Crusher, Baron von Raschke, Tully Blanchard, Nick Bockwinkel, The Sheik, The Assassin #1, Joe Blanchard. Footage will be shown from the recent 26th annual Cauliflower Alley old-timers banquet. Tentative line-up for Slamboree: - Van Vader vs. Davey Boy Smith for the WCW Title - Arn Anderon vs. Barry Windham for the NWA Title *- Brian Pillman & Steve Austin vs. Rick Steamboat & Shane Douglas for the WCW Tag Titles in a steel cage *- 2 Cold Scorpio & Marcus Bagwell vs. Chris Benoit & Bobby Eaton *- Dustin Rhodes & Kensuke Sasaki vs. Rick Rude & Paul Orndorff *- Sting vs. Scott Norton (tentative, with Scott's knee shot) *- Van Hammer vs. Maxx Payne There will be three oldies matches, a single, a tag, and a 6-man tag: *- Dory Funk Jr. vs. Nick Bockwinkel *- Wahoo McDaniel & Dusty Rhodes vs. Blackjack Mulligan & Ole Anderson There is talk that (gasp) the Ultimate Warrior will make an appearance at Slamboree. Let's hope that we can chalk this up to vicious rumour. Meltzer reports that UW asked for $250000 a year just to work (if that's the right word) WCW PPVs. - Fans of the Lightning Kid who are saddened by his jobbing for Doink will be glad to know that before joining the WWF full time, Kid will work one New Japan tour from 05/25 to 06/15. It's the time of the year for the annual Jr. Heavyweight Tourney in New Japan (coincidentally the time of the year when tape traders kick it into overdrive). Slated to be part of this year's tourney are Lightning Kid, Chris Benoit, 2 Cold Scorpio, David Finlay, Dean Malenko, Jushin Riger, El Samurai, Ultimo Dragon, Tiger Mask and Eddie Guerrero. It's a ten man round robin tourney, with the two top point scorers meeting in the final. The winner of the tourney gets an IWGP Jr. Title shot. After the tourney, Lightning Kid will start full time with the WWF and will supposedly get a push...no, not as the illegitmate offspring of Giant Gonzales and a female midget. - There's a report today in the Toronto Star saying that chances of Cactus Jack returning to the ring are remote. This guy usually doesn't know what he's talking about and rarely, it seems, reads his own column from week to week. - The WWF has the "King of the Ring" PPV on June 13th. The card will feature an 8-man tournament to determine who the King of the Ring in the WWF is (no idea if there's a prize other than the label or if the label will stick around and maybe be defended). The entrants in the tourney will be decided through several elimination bouts on the WWF syndies. They aired the following brackets on TV: Seed #1: Bret Hart --\ |--\ Seed #2 --/ \ |---\ Seed #3 --\ / \ |--/ \ Seed #4 --/ \ |--- King of The Ring Seed #5 --\ / |--\ / Seed #6 --/ \ / |---/ Seed #7 --\ / |--/ Seed #8 --/ So, Bret Hart was seeded number 1 by Jack Tunney and automatically makes it into the tourney. It's unclear how or when the winners of the qualifying matches will be seeded. This past weekend, Doink vs. Curt Hennig was a double COR, so neither advances into the tourney, possibly leaving the door open for a Hennig vs. Shawn Michaels IC Title match, if Michaels doesn't qualify. Also, Lex Luger defeated Bob Backlund by countout to qualify for the tourney. This weekend's matches will be Jim Duggan vs. Papa Shango and Razor Ramon vs. Tito Santana. It would seem natural that Bret Hart should walk through to the final in matches designed to get him over big. Lex Luger should also make it to the final and beat Bret by knocking him out with the forearm shot, even though Bret dominates the match. Then, Bret will have to be built up again for SummerSlam and if Bret wins the WWF Title at SummerSlam as rumoured, and Luger has the forearm surgery to remove the steel plate, we have a natural feud set up. Also on the card: - Hulk Hogan vs. Yokozuna for the WWF Title, with Mr. Fuji not present at ringside - Ted DiBiase & I.R.S. vs. Steiners for the WWF Tag Titles (rumoured) - WCW has a Clash of Champions scheduled for 06/15/93. Ric Flair will supposedly step back in the ring on this show. - WCW has this year's Beach Blast PPV on 07/11/93 from Gulfport, MS. - The WWF has SummerSlam in 08/93 with a tentative main event of Hulk Hogan vs. Bret Hart for the WWF Title. - E-mail TidBits: If your site has a slow feed or you don't read news frequently enough and you want to get this posting as e-mail every week, send me e-mail saying so. - Videos: Things are actually starting to move, I hope.
