I'm back early and I didn't go to Montreal after all. Turns out the drive to Toronto is still enough to give me back and neck pains, so I didn't risk the drive to Montreal. Jack's nose was bleeding after only a few of those stiff shots by Vader. Later, Jack had an abrasion on his face from a blow by Vader and a few more shots opened it up too. Jack's hair got in the way of most of the camera shots, but he looked fairly bloody. Certainly, when Harley Race was choking Jack's underarms on the bottom ropes (;-)), some blood dripped down onto the mat. Vader had small blood smears on several parts of his body from handling Jack. The Observer reports that Jack needed a total of 41 stitches and suffered a broken nose, dislocated jaw, and a concussion. Jack hasn't missed a commitment since the show. Second, the Owen Hart vs. Bam Bam Bigelow match on WWF SuperStars saw Owen blow out his knee legit when his feet slipped off the top rope when he tried an aerial spot. Bammer quickly moved to the finish of the match. The commentators tried to push that Owen's knee was injured by a move that Bam Bam had done earlier in the match, but it was clear that Owen's miscue was what did the damage. Hopefully, while he's out for the next couple of months he'll think about where his career is going. This guy was so promising a handful of years ago and has stellar matches in Japan; he could be used so much better. - Reports are that Sting & Cactus Jack will form some sort of alliance. - Depending on whom you believe, the buy rate for WrestleMania was somewhere between 2.1 and 2.4 per cent, certainly the lowest in WM history. I guess Vince has chosen a short term solution for his financial woes by putting his only guaranteed money maker in the driver's seat. - Now that Friar Ferguson was quickly turned face, I guess we'll never see that Fergy vs. Typhoon feud we were all dreaming about. - An idea whose time has come? WCW, having lost the Harris twins to the WWF, is bringing in the Power Twins to feud with the Cole twins to determine who the best brother/twin combo is working for WCW. In the WWF, they have a similar situation brewing. The Steiners, the Harris', the Beverly brothers, and perhaps Owen & Bret Hart could run a similar angle. Or maybe, the Harris' will feud with the Doinks? ;-) - WCW Slamboree takes place on PPV on 05/23/93. Advertised as the night of the legends of wrestling, this is the PPV that will unveil WCW's Hall of Fame. Slated to appear: Ivan Koloff, Verne Gagne, Greg Gagne, Johnny Valentine, Dusty Rhodes, Magnum TA, Mike Graham, Ole Anderson, Moolah, Blackjack Mulligan, Wahoo McDaniel, Red Bastien, Mr. Wrestling II, Dory Funk Jr., Don Muraco, Lou Thesz, Harley Race, John Tolos, Dick Murdoch, Ox Baker, Jimmy Snuka, Jim Brunzell, Thunderbolt Patterson, Da Crusher, Baron von Raschke, Tully Blanchard, Nick Bockwinkel, The Sheik, The Assassin #1, Joe Blanchard. Junkyard Dog and Dick Slater will re-join WCW and may well debut as part of the "legends" get-together. There will be an old-timers match of some sort. There will also be footage shown from the recent 26th annual Cauliflower Alley old-timers banquet. Flair has hinted in recent interviews that the Four Horsemen will be re-formed. Tully Blanchard signed on with WCW and will debut at this PPV. He will re-form his tag team with Anderson at some point down the road. No definite word on who the fourth horseman will be, although both Ole Anderson's name and Sid Vicious' name are being bandied about. Tentative (partial) line-up for Slamboree: - Van Vader vs. Davey Boy Smith for the WCW Title - Arn Anderon vs. Barry Windham for the NWA Title - Pillman & Austin vs. Scorpio & Bagwell (for the tag titles?) After this past weekend's TV, it almost seems like they are setting up a Vader vs. Cactus Jack match for the PPV, doesn't it? - Billy Jack Haynes is apparently coming into WCW. - WCW has a Clash of Champions scheduled for 06/15/93. Ric Flair will supposedly step back in the ring on this show. - WCW has this year's Beach Blast PPV on 07/11/93 from Gulfport, MS. - E-mail TidBits: If your site has a slow feed or you don't read news frequently enough and you want to get this posting as e-mail every week, send me e-mail saying so. - Videos: I was watching some Memphis stuff from 1986 on the weekend in Toronto. There was one interview that was particularly priceless. Lance Russell was interviewing Steve Borden & Jim Hellwig (now Sting & Ultimate Warrior). Steve & Jim were both bigger than I've ever seen them. Honestly, Jim looked bigger than UW ever did. Anyhow, Jim mumbled something about being deserving of title challenges. Phil Hickerson, a title holder of some sort and an out of shape journeyman wrestler, came out and said something like, "You guys don't deserve a title shot. You're still green. You can't wrestle better than me. The only thing you are good at is dropping them britches and sticking steroids in your booties." Steve & Jim just mumbled something like "Yeah, right." It was great.
