Matches are: - Masa Chono vs. Keiji Muto for the NWA Title - Ron Simmons vs. Rick Rude for the WCW Title - Sting vs. Big Van Vader in the finals of the King of Cable tourney - Rick Steamboat & Shane Douglas vs. Barry Windham & Brian Pillman for the WCW & NWA Tag Titles - The second annual Battlebowl match with 8 teams to be drawn live at the PPV. The only announced match is: - Cactus Jack & Johnny B. Badd vs. Dan Spivey & Van Hammer - Remaining BattleBowl participants: Sting, Dustin Rhodes, Paul Orndorff, Too Cold Scorpio, Kensuke Sasaki, Jushin Riger, Erik Watts, Steve Austin, Marcus Bagwell, Barbarian, Steve Williams, Barry Windham. - Shane Douglas and Rick Rude both suffered minor injuries on the weekend (no details), but are expected to be fine for Starrcade. - Dusty Rhodes' booking deal runs out in the near future. There's talk that he'll take a walk at that time since there's no way that he'll keep the same salary. Greg Gagne has been brought in to work on the the creative team. - WWF has it's annual Royal Rumble PPV on 01/24/93 (or is that 01/23/93?) from Sacramento. The line-up will include: - Bret Hart vs. Razor Ramon for the WWF Title - 30-man Royal Rumble, the winner of which will get a WWF Title shot at WrestleMania. The participants of the Rumble were reported in the Observer as being Bob Backlund, Berzerker, Carlitos Colon, Crush, Damien Demento, Ted DiBiase, Jim Duggan, Earthquake, Head Shrinker Fatu, Ric Flair, Owen Hart, Curt Hennig, Jerry Lawler, Rick Martel, Nailz, Nasty Boy Brian Nobbs, Repo-Man, Nasty Boy Jerry Saggs, Head Shrinker Samu, Tito Santana, Randy Savage, Papa Shango, Irwin R. Shyster, Tatanka, Genichiro Tenryu, Typhoon, Undertaker, Virgil, Koko B. Ware, Yokozuna. Potential other matches have been reported here as: *- Shawn Michaels vs. Marty Janetty for the IC Title *- Bam Bam Bigelow vs. Big Boss Man *- Max Moon vs. Terry Taylor *- Steiner Brothers vs. Beverly Brothers *- Undertaker vs. Nailz in an electric chair match The last match looks to be scrubbed if UT & Nailz are in the Rumble. Jerry Lawler will become a regular colour commentator for the WWF Superstars syndie and will work occasional big shows. Eveybody is betting that either Curt Hennig or Yokozuna will win the Rumble. There is a rumour that Bret Hart is slated to drop the WWF strap to Ric Flair in February. I guess this goes hand in hand with Curt Hennig winning the Rumble, giving us a Flair vs. Hennig main event at WrestleMania. There is also talk that Lex Luger will get pushed to the top overnight once March arrives, so there are some title change scenarios with him involved. The more sedate rumours have Bret Hart being given the push as champion, with the next heel at bat being Yokozuna. Yokozuna is slated for a major push at the house shows in late Januray and early February. - Apparently, the Steiners debuted this past Tuesday night at a WWF TV taping. WCW let them out of their contracts early. - WCW & New Japan co-promote the third annual SuperShow from Tokyo Dome on 01/04/93. Tentative line-up includes: - Masa Chono vs. Great Muta for the NWA & IWGP Titles - Rom Simmons vs. Tony Halme for the WCW Title - Riki Choshu vs. Genichiro Tenryu - The Steiners vs. Kensuke Sasaki & Road Warrior Hawk - Jushin Riger vs. El Ultimo Dragon (Yoshihiro Asai) for the IWGP Jr. Title - Norio Honaga & Super Strong Machine & Tatsutoshi Goto & Hiro Saito vs. Kengo Kimura & Shiro Koshinaka & Akitoshi Saito & Kabuki *- Sting vs. Hiro Hase There will also be matches involving Rick Rude, Dustin Rhodes and one other WCW wrestler. No word yet on whether parts of this card will be aired as a mini-PPV. Hiro Hase has title matches with both Muto & Chono before this show and if he wins either belt the card will be adjusted appropriately. - The TV station in my area that carries WCW World Wide Wrestling seems to have dropped it. On this coming week's WWW, Van Hammer upsets Ron Simmons in the Strongest Arm tourney. - WCW has a Clash of Champions on 01/13/93 from Milwaukee. - WCW has a SuperBrawl on 02/27/93 from Asheville, NC. - WWF has WrestleMania on 04/04/93 at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas. The promo tape includes some footage of Hulk Hogan and rumour has him appearing but not wrestling. The talk is that he'll either do commentary or be a guest referee. My guess is that he'll give Bret Hart the Hulkster's seal of approval. The main event will have the WWF champ defend against the winner of the Royal Rumble. - Videos: I must have overextended myself on the weekend because my back was very sore for the past few days. Luckily, the term's over and my teaching commitments ran out on Monday so I've been able to stay home and rest. I took the time to watch some tapes I've received over the past while. I've now watched all my old Calgary, a bit of Smoky Mountain and am now looking at some EMLL from 1991. Pretty good stuff, all of it. - I won't be posting a note next week since my Christmas plans will take me to Toronto and Montreal. I should resume my weekly schedule after that. Here's hoping that everybody reading this has a great holiday. Herb...
