The show will feature the final rounds of the NWA Tag Team Title tournament, with the following structure: Steve Williams & Terry Gordy (4) --\ |--\ Jushin Riger & Brian Pillman \ | | |--/ | Rick Steamboat & Nikita Koloff / | |-- NWA Tag Titles Hiroshi Hase & Akira Nogami (2) \ | |--\ | The Freebirds / | | |--/ Dustin Rhodes & Barry Windham \ | |--/ Rick Rude & Steve Austin (6) / where (#) gives the seeding of that team. Predictions, anyone? In changing the finishes of some tournament matches and doing the first match of the second round already, Bill Watts has created a problem with the advertisement for the PPV, which lists the eight teams that will participate in the tourney. The PPV ads have to be submitted around 60 days before the show, so changes a month before the show cause a problem. The Steiners and The Silver Kings, listed as appearing in the ad, won't be in the tourney. The only other announced match for the show is: - Sting vs. Big Van Vader for the WCW Title I expect that we may also see Scotty Flamingo defend the Lightheavyweight Title against Johnny B. Badd, and I hope that the Steiners don't wrestle as a way of selling Scott's bum knee. - Speaking of the Steiners, they get their IWGP Tag Title shot this Friday in Budokan Hall in Tokyo against Big Van Vader & Bam Bam Bigelow. - The next WCW Clash of Champions (CoC XX) will be in early September. By that time, Bill Watts will have had time to establish control of the WCW storylines, and one wonders what angles he'll run to set up the Halloween Havoc PPV. - The WWF has it's SummerSlam PPV scheduled for August 31st (to be taped at Wembley Stadium in London, England, on August 29th). The following partial line-up has been announced: - Randy Savage vs. Ultimate Warrior for the WWF Title - Bret Hart vs. Davey Boy Smith for the IC Title - Money Inc. vs. Legion of Doom for the WWF Tag Titles - Undertaker vs. Kamala - Scott Hall's Razor Ramon character is incredibly lame, isn't it? Just to set the record straight, we've had a white guy play a black guy (Paul Neu as P.N.News), we've had a Jewish guy play a black guy (Mark Merro as Johnny B. Badd) and now we've got a white guy playing a Latino. I suppose this isn't that bad when you consider that Hercules is playing a martial arts expert and lotsa stiffs are pretending to be pro-wrestlers. - Yesterday's mail contained my monthly guide to the various pay-TV channels I receive and July's pay-per-view schedule. There was no listing for the Great American Bash PPV on July 12. A quick phone call to the cable company confirmed that they haven't picked up the rights for the show (yet). There is a chance that they may pick it up later, though. I was assured that there was no policy change by the company and that they realized the appeal of these events (heck, even a 1% buy rate means a lot of buys). If they don't pick it up then fans in Southern Ontario (all of Canada?) will not be able to get the show without a satellite dish. - Videotape: I've mailed out 10 tapes already and, at this rate, will notify next week the next batch of people in the queue. Be patient. If you don't know what I'm talking about with this "videotape" stuff, send me e-mail and I'll clue you in. I won't be posting all the gruesome details yet again. Herb...
