At the WWF TV tapings, the scheduled dark match between Ric Flair and Roddy Piper didn't happen, with Piper being announced as absent. Instead Ric Flair took on Hulk Hogan in their first ever match, with Ric winning by count-out. This was to be a test-run for Flair and Hogan, who would begin their house show matches a few days later. Flair seems to be winning by count-out everywhere these guys meet. - While watching one of the TBS WCW shows on the weekend, I noticed something funny during one of Van Hammer's matches (okay, there were many things that were funny, but there's one that I wanted to point out). When Hammer started getting his Hammerheads to clap that beat for him, you could hear a "We Want Flair" chant in the background. Jeez. I mean, it's been quite a while since he left and he's made all kinds of appearances on the WWF shows, and the die-hard WCW fans are still cheering for him at WCW tapings. Amazing. - On this weekend's WWF syndies, Sid Justice will do an interview explaining that he's injured - wonder if they'll build an angle around the injury? Still no word on who will take Sid's place at Survivor Series, although different sources say it definitely will be Randy Savage and that it definitely won't be Randy Savage. Randy Savage will be replacing Sid at all the house shows, and in a dramatic move, the WWF may actually announce this on TV! Rumour has it that Sgt. Slaughter will take Rick Steamboat's place at Survivor Series. - Some talk of Rick Martel showing up in WCW as a heel, working with Paul E. Dangerously, Madusa, and Rick Rude. So while WCW, lost one Ric, they may have gained three others, since rumours still persist that Rick Steamboat will be brought in as well. - The WWF PPV on December 3rd from San Antonio will feature - Hulk Hogan vs. The Undertaker for the WWF Title - Bret Hart vs. Skinner for the IC Title - Ric Flair vs. Roddy Piper - Ted DiBiase & IRS vs. Virgil & Big Bossman So, I guess we can figure out that nothing will happen at the Survivor Series afterall as far as the WWF Title is concerned. - Apparently Kent Hrbek will work as a referee at WCW's Starrcade Battle Bowl PPV on December 29th. - Mike Shaw should be returning to WCW. He'll work as Norman, but will be a heel and will join forces with Abdullah & Cactus Jack. - Yesterday in Tallahassee, Florida, experts urged the House Regulated Industries Committee to begin drug testing on all professional wrestlers competing in the state. They argued that young fans should know whether their wrestling heroes are on anabolic steroids or not. Staff member Janet Clark presented her report on the issue and concluded that the physiques that achieve wrestling stardom virtually demand steroid use. Of course, the WWF (and I believe WCW too), has said that they will not bring their shows to the state if this drug-testing process is put in place. It's funny that the WWF, who we all know has the "most comprehensive drug-testing program" of all pro sports in the US, is afraid of someone else doing tests outside of their program. Vince is hoping that the fear of losing that income from gate percentages will scare the legislators into backing down on this plan. Afterall, if Vince allows one state to put something like this in place, then all the others will slowly follow suit, killing Vince's business. The same report also urged that rules be put in place to end the false advertising of names which everybody in the company (WWF or WCW) knows can't make it to the card. Herb...
