Although Hogan's match against Earthquake at Summer Slam will officially be Hogan's return from his injury, the Hulkster will be working some matches with Dino Bravo around the U.S. to get back into form. - This is what I've gathered happened to Brutus Beefcake: Brutus went para-sailing with some friends, including a woman - the para-sailer who injured the Beefer - and B. Brian Blair. Beefcake was one of the guys that helps the para-sailer get airbound by guiding the ropes between the boat and the para-sailer. As the boat took off and the para-sailer began to move, Beefcake got some sand in his eyes, turned around and was hit in the face with the para-sailer's knee. Says Brian, "The blow was totally unexpected. As he turned around, he took a knee right to the face." The accident happened at Cooper's Lake near Tampa. Practically every bone in Beefcake's face was broken by the blow and he required 8.5 hours surgery, including reconstructive surgery using bone from his hip. Twelve plates were placed in his head. A WWF official has said that it will be at least 18 months before Brutus steps in the ring again. This sounds terribly optimistic to me. This weekend some details of the accident will be given on TV and an address for get-well wishes will be given. In the mean time, Tito Santana has been replacing Beefcake at the house shows against Curt Hennig. But this is only a temporary pairing. Word has it that the WWF will be setting up a new angle to get Hennig into another feud for Summer Slam. A likely candidate appears to be Kerry von Erich. - The Rougeau Brothers, who took some time off after Royal Rumble to spend some time with their families, are expected to be back in the WWF in September. - Big Van Vader will be working a TV taping today and then go in for his eye surgery tomorrow. - Latest story on Andre the Giant is that he will do a short stint in Japan and then perhaps Spain. I'm still worried about the fact that the WWF has a new Andre doll. Will this guy ever retire? - Al Perez has quit the WWF. - The Star Blazer in the NWA *is* Tim Horner. There is no way that this is Owen Hart, although one Toronto paper has said it is Owen. - This same Toronto paper has Ric Flair leaving the NWA after Halloween Havoc to join the WWF and already have him lined up to feud with Ted DiBiase at that time! But, a quick reality check shows that Jim Herd will not release Ric Flair from his contract, so it looks like Flair will be in the NWA until 1992. Herb... As always, comments, criticisms, and questions are encouraged and appreciated. *********************************************************************** * Herb Kunze * "Whether you like it or not, * * Applied Math Department * learn to live with it, 'cause * * University of Waterloo * I'm the best thing going today!" * * hekunze@watmsg.waterloo.edu * - Ric 'Nature Boy' Flair * * hekunze@water.waterloo.edu * * ***********************************************************************
