Just having acquired the Road Warriors, Vince has pulled another a coup and signed on the Modern Day Warrior himself, Kerry von Erich. (The source for this info is rather erratic so take this with a grain of salt.) This is rather interesting since, not too long ago, Kerry was being courted by the NWA as part of their program to hire known wrestlers. I guess the hope is that Kerry will bring some of his dynamic aura - well, he did have it at one time - with him. Kerry, of course, had a motorcycle accident three years ago and had to have his ankle fused. As well, it seems he lost part of his foot. - The reported crowd size for the NWA show in Toronto last week is 2500. - Someone (sorry for the no-mention) pointed out that Terry Taylor is working the independents now that he has left the WWF. Rooster-less Terry has worked quite well as a face on some independent cards already. - Summer Slam is scheduled for August 27. The line-up I'm hearing seems to include the following title matches: - Hogan vs. Earthquake (Tugboat & Bravo in corners) - Warrior vs. Rude - Demolition vs. Harts - Hennig vs. Beefcake The funny part is that the last three title matches have all been running for a while now in the houses. It would seem that Vince is betting the bank on Hogan's drawing power. - In an interview in a Toronto newspaper, WWF prez Jack Tunney has the nerve to say that Nikolai Volkoff is the third most popular guy in the WWF, "right behind Hulk and the Warrior." This might mean a more serious push after the Zhukov feud cools. Whodathunkit? - Amanda Ultimate Warrior is really Jim Hellwig's niece. - Vince is running out of ideas for his over-used talent. Tag teams looming on the horizon include Hercules & Paul Roma and Jim Duggan & Nikolai Volkoff. Both seem destined to appear at SS '90. - Did everyone catch World Wide Wrestling this past weekend? Flair pummelled a jobber and then goaded Sting to come to ringside. The remaining Dudes with Attitudes held Sting back while Flair did some of the best shtick I've seen in the sport for a while. He imitated all the faces in the ring until I almost busted a gut. Great stuff. Unfortunately, this might have been my last look at Ric Flair, NWA World Champion. There is little doubt in my mind that the title will be passed to Sting at the PPV this weekend, probably with face intervention stopping the Horsemen interference. I like the idea of a heel turn by one of the Dudes with Attitudes, but I doubt Ole will use that angle this soon. This PPV will no doubt be designed to send people (except Ric Flair fanatics, like me) home happy. - Scuttlebutt has it that both Flair and Doom will drop their titles on the PPV this weekend in Baltimore, Flair to Sting and Doom to the R'N'R Express. Unlike some others on the net, I'm not too turned off by the R'N'R Express taking the straps. When they were brought in, I was worried, but they have worked sooo well (3rd, next to Flair and the Midnight Express) in the past while that they deserve the title. I think the company should be rewarding high-quality service. That statement helps to explain why I don't like the idea of passing by Luger to give Sting the strap. - Look for Cheryl Roberts to be appearing ringside for Jake's matches in the near future. - Ric Flair met US prez George Bush last week in Charlotte, N.C. (Ultimate Warrior?) Herb...
