The explanation I'm still hearing is that he's suffering from a near-career-ending heart-valve problem. It's being said that the Legion of Doom will take the titles some time before the end of the year, giving Vince the opportunity to put Bill out to pasture. - Latest word has Brad Armstrong indeed coming in to the NWA. His former tag partner Tim Horner is also rumoured to be coming in. Norman should be back shortly as well. The worrisome part of these returns is the gimmicks attached to the wrestlers. Norman will apparently be Norman the Truck Driver (who is this going to appeal to?), Brad will toss candy to children (yeah!) and Tim will be a futuristically attired wrestler. - In an Ole Anderson type move, Vince seems ready to bring in Sgt. Slaughter. The strange part is that I'm hearing he'll be a heel - perhaps feuding with a reformed Nikolai Volkoff. Gag. - Rumour has it that Hulk Hogan's "come-back" match against the Earthquake will be a one-shot deal and will not mark Hogan's return to a full schedule - well, as full as Hogan's schedule ever gets ;-). I guess that this hinges on whether the face-ifying of the Ultimate Warrior gets over and the kiddies start to eat his vitamins. - This weekend in Toronto, there's a live Sumo card planned for the afternoon. Might check it out and report. - Terry Taylor heads to Japan this week and then perhaps in to the NWA. - Rumours are strong that there's trouble with Sid Vicious in the NWA. Apparently he's being looked at by Vince and some Japanese organizations while at the same time missing his NWA dates. - Tony Atlas has resurfaced in the NWA. This might be good and bad. Again, Ole seems to be going for recognition value of who he brings in which is fine as long as there's talent attached. Unfortunately, this may mean a renewed racially motivated angle in the organization. Let's hope not. But now that we have a black talent that looks like a stud and knows some wrestling, maybe we've seen the last of the Junk Food Dog and the worst matches in Flair's career. - Latest rumour has Vince making an offer to buy the NWA. I doubt Ted Turner would sell to Vince, 'cause these boys just don't like each other, but if the offer is really high..... - Couldn't make it to the NWA's return to Toronto live card last night. It's a 130 km drive and other things just took precedence. I don't know the results yet either, but I should by the weekend. - Rick Rude is out for a while with a torn muscle. The Rude-Warrior shows have been quickly replaced by Warrior-(Haku&Heenan). This weekend past, Warrior won the handicap match in Chicago. - Yup, Cactus Jack Manson is out of the NWA. It seems that Ole wanted to job Jack out (similarly to Pillman...), but Jack decided to quit before ruining his career. Ed Whalen reports that Cactus Jack was a jobber in the WWF not that long ago (< 5 years). - As I mentioned last week, Vince has targetted Scott Norton and John Nord in the AWA as future acquisitions. It seems that Nord had a try-out already and may even make it in by the next TV tapings. No word on Scott Norton. Herb... As always, comments, criticisms, and questions are encouraged and appreciated. *********************************************************************** * Herb Kunze * "Whether you like it or not, * * Applied Math Department * learn to live with it, 'cause * * University of Waterloo * I'm the best thing going today!" * * hekunze@watmsg.waterloo.edu * - Ric 'Nature Boy' Flair * * hekunze@water.waterloo.edu * * ***********************************************************************
