Here's a quick summary of the Clash of Champions results from last night and some comments of mine: - The Southern Boys vs. The Fabulous Freebird The SBs win by pinfall. - Tommy Rich vs. Bam Bam Bigelow Bam Bam gets disqualified for excessive choking. - Mike Rotunda & Tom Zenk vs. The Samoan Swat Team Rotunda & Zenk eek out the win after Zenk clobbers a Somoan and places Rotunda on top for the pin. - Brian Pillman vs. Mark Callas Mark catches Pillman off the turn-buckles and drops him neck-first across the top rope for the pin. - Barry Windham vs. Doug Furnas Barry Windham drops out of a Furnas vertical suplex attempt and belly-to-back suplexes Furnas instead. Feet on the rope give BW the pinfall. - Rock'N'Roll Express vs. Midnight Expres Midnight Express gets disqualified after Stan Lane interrupts the referee's count while Bobby Eaton is pinned. - Lex Luger vs. Sid Vicious Lex gets attacked from behind by Sid while attacking Ole Anderson but rallies and with a single clothesline gets the pin. - Steiners vs. Doom Rick & Scott dominate, but Doom gets the pin when Butch Reed knock out Scott with a for...er...international object. - Arn Anderson vs. Paul Orndorff Paul reversed a roll-up by Arn and got the pin. - Ric Flair vs. Junk Food Dog Ric gets disqualified after Ole interferes, followed by the remaining Horsemen, followed by the Superheroes. - I should mention that I only *saw* the event; unfortunately audio was not receivable for some reason. I take this as a mixed blessing, since I did want to hear the commentary, but I really didn't want to hear what Rocky King had to say. It looks like the black vs. white angle may still get pushed, although Sting has been worked into the picture. Comments: - Tommy Rich looked really good. The lost weight makes him quite respectable. - The Southern Boys are getting pushed for something - a feud with the Midnights seems reasonable. - It looks like the R'N'R Express is lined up to meet Doom in the future after their win and the Steiners loss. - Mark's push continues. - Orndorff looked darn good for a 40 year-old who's been away from the sport for some time. - Was that that the JFD or a sack of potatoes in the main event? I mean, both could have worked the matched with equal competence as I saw it. Even with one Flair flip and one Flair flop and Ric's selling of everything - the Dog sold nothing - this match was abysmal. - Word has it that Woman has been fired by the NWA. The shows have announced that she is suspended due to her part in the Capital Combat fiasco, but it seems doubtful that she will ever return. - Abdullah the Butcher is back in Japan, where he's a big crowd favourite. He has teamed recently with Ranger Ross in a few bouts. - I was worried when I heard that the WWF & Hasbro were releasing a new line of wrestling dolls because there was still an Andre the Giant doll. As my fears expected, this means that Andre will be making a comeback in the near future. Word is that Andre will have a face stint in Vinceland, feuding with the Heenan family throughout the summer. Herb... As always, comments, criticisms, and questions are encouraged and appreciated. *********************************************************************** * Herb Kunze * "Whether you like it or not, * * Applied Math Department * learn to live with it, 'cause * * University of Waterloo * I'm the best thing going today!" * * hekunze@watmsg.waterloo.edu * - Ric 'Nature Boy' Flair * * hekunze@water.waterloo.edu * * ***********************************************************************
