It's incredible that someone who has been with the organization so long still had some integrity (only Tito Santana also springs to mind). Unfortunately, Greg, presumably at Vince's order, has dyed his hair black and is now taking 'guitar lessons' from the Honky Tonk Man, his tag team partner of late. The duo is currently recording a single: "That's All Right Honky Tonk Hammer." Perhaps with the new hair and a new theme song, Greg will finally enjoy some time in the spotlight again - I mean look what similar revitalization has done for Koko B. Ware ;-) - Jesse "The Body" Ventura has recently completed filming his latest sci-fi flick just north of Collingwood in Canada. - Rumour has it that Roddy Piper is apparently ready to leave the WWF again to further pursue his movie career; this would explain many recent match switches. He will shortly appear in a movie with Jesse Ventura. - We can expect ticket sales for WrestleMania VI to have exceeded 50000 as you read this. The SkyDome fits 66000, but 5000 ducats are reserved for the corporate sector, who doled out mega-bucks to purchase the private, luxurious boxes. - WrestleMania Vi will be seen via 54 closed circuit hook-ups in the U.S., with feeds to Japan, Europe and Australia. But in a brilliant bit of marketing, there will be *no* closed circuit outlets in Ontario, the host province for the event. There will be a few Canadian closed circuit venues however. Big deal. This leaves me personally screwed, since I refuse to go to a large-crowd live event and get crappy seats for perhaps a mediocre show but still pay an arm and a leg. It's time to check my sources for satellite signal pirates... - The Oriental Express, Pat Tanake & Akio Sato, is not surprisingly managed by Mr. Fuji. This seems to further predict some changes for the Powers of Pain... - Word is out that the Hart Foundation, Bret Hart & Jim Neidhart, will change its name to "The Pink and Black Attack." Ugh. Sadly, these guys will be opposing the awesome ;-) Bolsheviks at WrestleMania. - The Ultimate Warrior has signed for a series of handicap matches against Dino Bravo & The Canadian Earthquake. - CNWA Report: Well, this week saw some more interesting developments in the Canadian National Wrestling Alliance. In a tag-team match, Randy Thatcher & Ron Ritchie, calling themselves the Canadian Connection, took on The Great Gama Singh & Duke Myers. At the end of the match, Kerry Brown (son of Bulldog Bob Brown) appeared at ringside and misfired a right hand, hitting Gama instead of Ritchie. This enabled Ritchie to get the pin on Gama. In the post-match interview, Gama was beaten up by Kerry Brown & Duke Myers, who seem to have reformed their old alliance. This might well mean a face turn for Gama (!!), who can team with his brother Akam Singh to face Brown & Myers. In the main event, Steve DiSalvo took on The Angel of Death in a "Throw-In-The-Towel" match. Both wrestlers choose a representative who is to throw in the towel should they think their man cannot continue. The Angel of Death chose Bulldog Bob Brown and DiSalvo chose Ron Ritchie. The finale saw referee Jurgen Hermann get knocked down, Bulldog take out Ritchie (with small amounts of juice...) and throw in Ritchie's towel. The referee awoke to find DiSalvo pinning The Angel of Death, but because DiSalvo's towel was in the ring, he awarded the match to the Angel of Death. Next week will feature the return of Ed Whalen, who has made a few cameo appearances thus far, to the commentator's table. - Caught a good match between Chris Adams and Mike George for George's WWA world belt this week. I think that this was reasonably recent action. The special referee was Pat O'Conner. The action was hot and heavy until Pat took a bump thanks to an Adams super-kick. Adams covered George for a good ten seconds, but Pat was lying on the concrete outside the ring. Finally DJ Peterson charged down to ringside to help revive the dazed referee. While this was going on outside the ring, George managed to dump Adams over the top rope. George tried to suplex Adams back into the ring, but Adams managed to land on top of George. DJ entered the ring and made the three count while O'Conner watched from outside. A jubilant Adams held the title belt only to be told by O'Conner that he was disqualifying George for throwing Adams over the top. Good show. - WWF Influx: There is a lot of talk that Larry Cameron, the former Stampede champion, is inches away from signing with the WWF. Larry would do well in the league. He has yet to make an appearance in the CNWA, if he is in fact going to stay in Canada. The newest rumour, however, has Dory Funk, Jr. coming out of retirement to return to the WWF. - The Wrestling Observer Newsletter's latest ranking's are: WWF - Champion: Hulk Hogan Contenders: 1) Curt Hennig 2) Shawn Michaels 3) Randy Savage 4) Marty Janetty 5) Ted DiBiase NWA - Champion: Ric Flair Contenders: 1) Bobby Eaton 2) Brian Pillman 3) Scott Steiner 4) Ricky Morton 5) Lex Luger Herb... *********************************************************************** * Herb Kunze * "Whether you like it or not, * * Applied Math Department * learn to live with it, 'cause * * University of Waterloo * I'm the best thing going today!" * * hekunze@watmsg.waterloo.edu * - Ric 'Nature Boy' Flair * ***********************************************************************
