______________________________________________________________________ I do not offer subscriptions to a mailing list! I do not e-mail images! ______________________________________________________________________ File server is now working! My firewall blocked it at first! Note that mIRC DCC chat requests happen on all sorts of ports. I have unblocked some ports, but it is possible that a particular DCC chat request could randomly choose a blocked port. If you don't get a response from the fserve, try again. ______________________________________________________________________ - Okay, I received quite a few e-mails expressing interest in wrestling matches. First, I want to say that I was purposely not fullly forthcoming about match movie trading occuring on the net: there are two channels on dalnet wherein people trade pretty much exclusively WWF and WCW stuff. Traffic focuses largely on current episodes of RAW or Smackdown or Tough Enough, for those people who missed a show or don't get them in their country. Yes, current PPVs and commercial tapes also appear. I want to make it clear that this sort of trading requires a fast computer (for good playback) and a fast connection (for reasonable download times). So, what the hell, I'll make stuff available on an fserve as well. But my focus is going to be on Japanese, Mexican or rare/old North American matches. The first three matches I've encoded are 1991.04.21 All Japan Misawa & Kawada & Kobashi vs. Tsuruta & Taue & Fuchi, 52 minute match 1992.06.05 All Japan Women Toyota & Shimoda vs. Hokuto & Mita 1992.08.15 All Japan Women Toyota vs. Yamada, hair vs. hair I've also got a few files I've grabbed from elsewhere, but they won't be the focus of the site. And I'm also dumping recent theatrical movies (Final Fantasy, Jurassic Park 3, etc.) on the same drive. So, how do you go about accessing the files? Here's a quick list of instructions. 1. Download mIRC 32 from the web and install it. 2. Configure mIRC32: + Access File--Options. + Under Connect, enter Full Name, E-Mail, Nickname, and Alternative Nickname. + In the second from the top drop down box, select Random US Undernet server, Random EU Undernet Server, Random US DALnet Server, or Random EU DALnet server. The US vs. EU part is obviously for North American vs. European users. The Undernet and DALnet are two different networks. I am almost always on one of them. Since they don't communicate with each other, you'll have to check each for me, as detailed later. There are other channels for wrestling stuff on DALnet, but DALnet also features a lot of spam messages, so I tend to prefer the Undernet. + Still in Options, scroll down and select DCC. Set On Send request to Auto-get file, Set If Auto-get and file exists to Resume, and set OnChat request to Show chat dialog. + Select DCC--Folders. Click on the Edit button and in the subsequent window set the folder for downloads. 3. Run Mirc. The File--Options--Connect window should open at start-up. Click on Connect to IRC Server. Mirc will try to get you connected using a random server. You may run into a conflict if somebody else is using the same nickname. Eventually, you get connected. 4. The Status Window contains information and a command line at the bottom. In the command line, type /join #wrestling-hk to join the channel in which I'm "serving" matches. A new window opens showing the channel, listing all members of the channel on the right side. I've been using the name Ligerbomb lately, but my name may change. 5. Note that on DALnet, you can also join #wrestling-video and #wrestling-vcd. I may be serving in there as well, but I'll always be in #wrestling-hk. These other channels are the ones I spoke about earlier. 6. After a few minutes, tops, my advertisement will flash by. Similar stuff happens in the other channels. The ad contains text like Trigger: /ctcp Ligerbomb puroresu Sends: 2/2 Online: 1/2 Queues: 4/10 This would mean that both of my send slots are full, there is room for one more person to browse the site, and four people are in line to get files. 7. Type the trigger. The easiest way to do this is to mark it with your mouse by lift clicking and dragging. When you release the mouse button the highlight box disappears and the text is copied to the clipboard. Now hit Ctrl-V to paste it into the command line. Or just type it. Hit enter. 8. A DCC Chat window appears. Accept the request. 9. A new window opens, showing you the contents of my fserve. You type dir and cd, to see files and change directories. 10. If you see a file that you are interested in, say herb.avi, type get herb.avi and hit enter. If there is a free queue spot, you will be told where you are in the queue. If there are no free spots, you'll be told so. You can type queues and sends to see the queue and current sends. You can queue up to two files. 11. At some point, you'll be next in line and my fserve will send you a file. Thanks to the DCC options we set, the file will automatically be received. Earlier incomplete gets will be resumed. The get file dialog window shows you the stats, including time left in the send. Files can take a long time to send. I require a certain minimal speed from you; you will be kicked off if you are too slow. 12. YOU HAVE TO STAY ON MIRC IN THE CHANNEL WHILE WAITING FOR THE FILE. Well, that's the primer. Other fserves work the same. There are other features to IRC or mIRC, but I'm trying to keep it as simple as possible. One final crucial point. You should make sure that you have the latest Windows Media Player installed. It is available from Microsoft's web page. Movies on the net can be encoded using various compression/decompression routines, called codecs for shorts. Any movies I encode will use the divX codec, which is available online or at my fserve. If there's any reasonable level of interest in these activities, I'll keep them up. I'd like to mention here on this page any reasons why the matches I've picked are great, including historical significance, etc., and I'll even listen to requests for matches, as long as they stay true to the outline focus I'd like to have. I'll be logged in most of the time. In the case of the above three matches, the All Japan bout is a rarity. It features 48 minutes of a 51 minute dream, epitomizing to me what was the best male style of the early 1990s. The file is really large, but it contains an hour of heaven. The wrestlers in the women's matches should need no introduction, as all of them are great. The Toyota vs. Yamada hair vs. hair title match is legendary. The tag match just has some of my favourite women wrestlers in it from a time frame when every main event in AJW was a four star or better affair. Enjoy. Please send me any feedback. - What is there to say about wrestling in North America lately? The WWF obviously realized how badly the whole invasion angle was playing out, so they completely restarted it last week, working ECW into the mix. I'm unsure why Jerry Lynn wasn't a part of the ECW team. Weirder still, there doesn't seem to be any reason for Vince McMahon to continue to let WCW or start to let ECW have TV time on his shows, yet they get that time. Stranger still, they work interpromotional matches on TV. It makes little sense. What was clear last Monday is that Paul Heyman is playing a role in the direction of the reborn angle. In every WCW invasion angle of the weeks before, the WCW team was impotent and ran away from any fight even the WWF B Team fights. Either that or they got punked out. Finally, they did the weird split up angle where Undertaker actually finally took a bit of punishment. But when the angle was reborn, the ECW guys stood their ground in the ring when the WWF B Team charged. Somebody finally realized that it is hard to get into an angle of this type if one side is booked as wimpy. And could you believe that the WCW booking did the lame old biased referee gimmick. It seems like we can find an example of every element of wrongness to hold up in analyzing the WCW invasion. Really sad. ______________________________________________________________________ If you have any feedback regarding my web pages, please send me e-mail.
