Well, here we go. I got around to tallying the entries a lot sooner than
I thought I would. There were a few surprises, some run-away victories
(or losses, depending on the category), and some very closely contested
awards. For each of the 46 awards, what follows is the winner, the
description of the award, last year's winner, some participation
statistics for the award, and a vote breakdown, listing the number
of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place votes each potential winner received.
Interspersed throughout the "official" awards are the mock awards
that voters included with their entry forms.

I hope everybody enjoys reading this and that my efforts were
worthwhile. Any format complaints, etc., should be directed to
me in e-mail. Any other feedback can be posted or e-mailed to me.

Herb...

P.S. The complete posting that I had prepared is 80 Kbytes big, and
will get truncated if I post it, so I've split the posting into
two halves, and made two postings.

Now on with the show:

I want to start a new award. This award will be for the wreslter
or manager who damaged himself or his career the most by either doing
physically damaging moves (example from years back: Snuka off the top of
the cage) or by taking on a stupid gimmick the company gives him or by
doing a humiliating job. The wrestler should have been active within the
past year and his qualifications for the award should be given.

The award will be call "The Hulk Hogan real American Award."
It is named after the mock-award presented to Superstar billy Graham on
the "slammies" WWF mock-entertainment show a few years back. Grahams
body was worn out by that time but in exchange for showing his hip
surgery on television, the WWF allowed him to "come back" which means
he walked to the ring and was immediatly put out of wrestling by Butch
Reed.

To start things off, my nominee for the "Hulk Hogan real american
Award" is John Tolos who was also known as Coach. Tolos was probably one
of the most promising "new" managers to come into national wrestling since
Paul E. Dangerously. He allowed himself to be stuck with the stupid coach
gimmick and probably has put himself back into the regional promotions for
a good long time.

Please post any additional nominations to the newsgroup.

It's comforting to see that some things never change.

I think Lady Blossom is also very deserving of the
"Best Presence of Mind to Keep Pulling Down Her Skirt Despite
Having Just Been Knocked on Her Ass, And Supposed to Be
Knocked Out" Award.

Could someone PLEASE tell me why everyone thinks this is the
greatest thing to happen since baked bread? Granted, the move
is somewhat exciting to watch, but (1) it doesn't look all that
devastating to me, (2) there are very few opponents that can
actually sell this move (most of the time their heads don't even
come CLOSE to hitting the mat), and (3) there are several moves out
there that are both more devastating-looking and, at least, if
not more, exciting (from a mark's POV)

The U.S. has George Bush, Johnny Cash, Bob Hope, and Stevie Wonder.
Canada has Brian Mulroney, No Cash, No Hope...No Wonder.

I wondered, "Where the FUCK is my ROOF ?!?"

One comment on the awards (besides the gripes we could all raise when we
see how some other voters lacked the wisdom we showed in our own votes):

* Best Announcer: Jesse Ventura

Jesse was a colour commentator and not an announcer by the standard
criteria, but what makes this one perhaps more than questionable (even
though Jesse was undoubtedly one of the greats) is that he retired from
his commentator job more than 3 months before the period for these
awards began. He quit on August 2, 1990; the eligibility period for
these awards is supposed to be from November 9, 1990 to November 8,
1991.

I suppose, in fine wrestling tradition, we could strip him of the title.
Unfortunately, even if he's ineligible, Jesse may still be a better pick
than the runner-up. Gimme a break! :-)

One more unoffical award:

Most bizzare pre-match ritual:

Dino Bravo running in circles.

And while on the subject of Bravo his former partners name is Hertquake, NOT
earthquake.
