Thunder Results March 5th, 1998. Live/Taped: Live. Length: Two Hours. Location: Columbus, Ohio. Hosted By: Tony Schiavone, Bobby "The Brain" Heenan and Lee Marshall. * Footage of Randy Savage being awarded the Harvard Lampoon "Real Man of the Year" award were shown before the intro. * "Hollywood" Hogan, Eric Bischoff and other NWO members delivered comments in the ring. Hogan spoke of Elizabeth being his manager and how she knew he was more of a man than Savage was. New NWO member Brian Adams asked Hogan to let him wrestle Savage. * Bill Goldberg beat Vincent of the NWO in about ten seconds. * A WCW "This Week In Motorsports" segment aired. * Eddie Guerrero defeated Prince Iaukea, pinning him after a Frog Splash. * Kimberly and a pair of Nitro Girls made an appearance to hype next week's Nitro. * Juventud Guerrera beat El Dandy, pinning him after a 450 Splash. After the match Konan came out to harass Guerrera. Juventud challenged Konan to match on Nitro next week. * Randy Savage came out to accept Brian Adams' challenge. He called out Hogan and Adams, telling Hogan that several members of the NWO would rather have him as the leader than Hogan. * A video package highlighting the Scott Steiner/Lex Luger feud was shown. * A video segment featuring Kevin Nash being powerbombed by the Giant was shown. * Curt Hennig beat Jim "the Anvil" Neidhart with the help of Rick Rude. Davey Boy Smith came out to help Neidhart after the match. * Mike Tenay interviewed Raven in the ring. * They played taped comments from Chris Jericho. * Chris Jericho beat Ciclope with the Lion Tamer. Afterwards he was attacked by Dean Malenko when he refused to release Ciclope from his hold. Malenko put the Texas Cloverleaf on Jericho. * A Scott Norton/Renegade match was interrupted by the Giant, who powerbombed Norton in the middle of the ring. When Renegade got in the Giant's face he received a chokeslam. The Giant had his wrists tied together with a chain and padlock and was led away by security. * A Diamond Dallas Page/Raven match went to no decision. The match was no DQ because of "Raven's Rules". DDP added that "DDP's Rules" meant that there'd be no referee either. The two men fought on the floor, and were eventually ambushed by Chris Benoit. All three men fought until a huge man, (Ron Reis AKA Ron Studd AKA "the Yeti"), dressed in shabby clothes entered the ring and attacked Benoit. He was clearly a new member of Raven's Flock. Saturn Came in as well, while Hammer brought a guard rail to the ring. Raven DDT'ed Page on the rail, bending it. * Randy Savage and Brian Adams battled to no decision when Hogan, Elizabeth, the mystery NWO member (Brutus Beefcake) and eventually the rest of the NWO all interfered. Sting came out with a baseball bat near the end of the show to chase them off. Before the match Savage, while trading quips with Hogan about who was a real man, told Hogan to ask his wife who the real man was. Elizabeth herself said Savage was the real man. * Next Monday: Konan vs. Juventud Guerrera. * Next week: Nothing announced. Comments: I felt like I was watching a house show for most of the program. Several of the matches featured some good moves, but none of the matches themselves really stood out. Only four of the eight matches had clean finishes. The whole point of the show seemed to be to NOT tell us who'd be on, thereby making us guess who'd show up and when. Again the appearance of Beefcake was downplayed, and drew no reaction from the crowd. Ron Studd's entry into the Flock drew even less attention. Studd looked a bit out of shape compared to his last stint in WCW. Beefcake, on the other hand, looks in great shape, and it's a shame they won't bother to tell us who he is. I just don't see the point in dragging it out. Even the most diehard Goldberg fan can't rave about his "technical skills" in this match. He walked in, spiked Vincent in the gut and Jackhammered him. This type of squash doesn't prove how good Goldberg is, just how bad Vincent is. This was his most overtly "Ultimate Warrior-esque" match yet. Didn't Konan and Guerrera agree to a match on Thunder this past Monday? They must have meant the next Nitro. I sat there wondering "how in the world does a Renegade/Norton match appear this high up on the card?" Then the Giant started walking to the ring and it made sense: the two fought so the Giant could come out and beat them up. They really should have done this much earlier in the show. My dad has proposed the theory that the Giant is going to match Nash in the number of illegal powerbombs delivered, thus offsetting the amount of money that Nash owes WCW in fines. At first I scoffed at the notion, but after further thought it did make sense-in a twisted WCW sort of way. Maybe J.J. Dillon is using Nash's fine money to foot the Giant's bill? Overall it was a boring show. They just didn't seem to put any real thought into any of the matches. Everything is kind of on autopilot heading into Uncensored.
