Thunder Results January 22nd, 1998. Live/Taped: Live. Length: Two Hours. Location: Huntsville, Alabama. Hosted By: Tony Schiavone, Bobby "The Brain" Heenan and Lee Marshall. * It was announced that the vacant World Heavyweight Title situation will be dealt with at Souled Out. "Hollywood" Hogan, Sting and Scott Hall have all been requested by WCW to show up. It was also announced that "Rowdy" Roddy Piper will be in attendance at the PPV. * Scott Steiner beat Scott Norton via DQ when Konan, Vincent and Buff Bagwell interfered. Ray Traylor and Rick Steiner came out to help Scott Steiner, but he spurned their help and cleaned the ring of the NWO members by himself. * Kevin Nash, in the ring, announced that he would collect on the $1.5 million bond put up by the Giant at some point later in the show. * Chavo Guerrero, Jr. and Super Calo beat Silver King and La Parka when Calo pinned Silver King. Lizmark, Jr., Juventud Guerrera, Psychosis and El Dandy all ran in, making it an eight way brawl. * They showed a clip of Nick Patrick trying to tape "his side of the story" elsewhere in the arena (taped earlier in the day). In the background Rick Martel could be seen arriving. Martel was then accosted by Billy Kidman. Martel pushed Kidman, but was attacked from behind by Saturn. Kidman and Saturn then threw Martel through a glass door. * WCW announced an exclusive Internet-only PPV titled "The Boston Brawl". Details are available at "www.WCWwrestling.com". * Dean Malenko beat Marty Jannetty with the Texas Cloverleaf. * Bill Goldberg defeated Kendell Windham, pinning him after the Jackhammer. * Scott Hall did his survey. Louie Spicolli came out with a set of golf clubs, claiming he "found them" in the lockerroom and that they belonged to Larry Zbyszko. Spicolli proceeded to break several clubs, which prompted Zbyszko to come to the ring. Larry and Louie got into a brief scuffle, but Zbyszko escaped before Hall could join in. Zbyszko stated that he would have someone come to the ring with him at the PPV. * Rey Mysterio, Jr. got the win over Eddie Guerrero when Chris Jericho interfered. Guerrero assisted Jericho in beating on Mysterio, but also complained to him about costing him his shot at the Cruiserweight Title. Chris Benoit snuck into the ring as Guerrero and Jericho were arguing. * Chris Benoit beat Chris Jericho with the Crippler Crossface. Jericho submitted quickly so as to avoid injury. After the match Benoit taunted Raven, who was at ringside. Raven ran in and attacked Benoit when his back was turned. * "Hollywood" Hogan delivered an interview, saying he believed WCW was going to give him the World Title back at Souled Out. * Rick Martel beat Saturn with the Quebec Crab. Billy Kidman tried unsuccessfully to interfere. * They showed clips of Roddy Piper on "Walker, Texas Ranger". * The Giant and Scott Hall battled in the main event. "Hollywood" Hogan and Kevin Nash came to the ring. Nash hit the Giant with a foreign object. Hogan then entered the ring and joined Hall in beating on the Giant. The Giant grabbed both Hall and Hogan by their throats and was about to double chokeslam them, but Randy Savage appeared on the top turnbuckle. Suddenly Lex Luger appeared to push Savage off. Luger then put Savage into the Torture Rack as Nash looked on (taunting Savage). Nash then went into the ring to attack the Giant, who had apparently just covered Hall for a three count (the ref having not signaled for a bell during all the previous action). Nash taunted the Giant, who was forced to take out his frustrations on stuff around the ring-including the ring itself, which the Giant collapsed by tearing free the ringpost from the cables connecting it to the other posts. Hall, still in the ring, staggered about as if an earthquake had hit. * Next Monday: Nothing announced. * Next week: Nothing announced. Comments: No bones about it: this was the best Thunder yet, and one of the best all around WCW shows I've seen in a while. I wasn't exactly glued to the TV for the entire two hours, but it did deliver some decent match, assorted oddities, as well as doing a great job of hyping the PPV. I missed the TV rating for the first hour both times, but saw that the second hour was rated "TV14". I wonder if that was WCW's idea or TBS's? I don't know what the point of the Martel attack was, but it looked pretty good anyway. The Giant ripping apart the ring was a pretty awesome sight.
