According to the lead story in USA Today's "Olympic Digest" sidebar, Mark Henry, fed up by the drug abuse and politics of competitive weight lifting, signed a TEN YEAR, multi-million dollar deal to join the WWF after the Olympics. Vince McMahon is quoted as saying that Henry is one of the unique breed who does not need a creative charater twist to be charasmatic, he simply has to be himself. He says that after the Olympics, Henry will probably train for a couple months, but could be in the ring by September. Also, if Henry does decide to continue persuing weightlifting, his contract allows for him to take up to three months per year off to prepare and compete in international events. While it is obvious that Henry is an amazing athlete (at over 6"3' and 420 lbs, the man can dunk a basketball! Not to mention being able to lift ridiculous amount of weight....), one has to wonder about the wisdom of handing out the first ever ten year contract (at least, the first I've ever heard of) to someone unproven in the ring. Also, as I'm sure Herb and his disciples will point out, the guy will be quite limited, at least for his first year or two in the ring... assuming he gets better at all. Still, this news, while probably inevitable (given Titan's sponsoring of Henry's training efforts), is still something that I view with guarded optimism.
