From: ag725@FreeNet.Carleton.CA (Rick Scaia) Subject: [INFO] The News From Dayton, 5/26/96 Date: 1996/05/26 Message-ID: <4oa7he$qev@freenet-news.carleton.ca> Sender: ag725@freenet5.carleton.ca (Rick Scaia) Organization: The National Capital FreeNet Reply-To: ag725@FreeNet.Carleton.CA (Rick Scaia) Newsgroups: rec.sport.pro-wrestling Back to the regular grind... here's the run-down of the weekly Alex Marvez column (reproduced, as always, without permission of the Dayton Daily News): * Headline for this week reads "Pillman could join WWF tonight". Alex first suggests that we might see everybody's favorite Loose Cannon surfacing on tonight's WWF PPV (which Marvez notes "should be a good one"), in the role of the *real* harrasser of Mrs. Davey Boy Smith. If he's not there tonight, tomorrow on the live RAW might be where he debuts. * Other Pillman news: he was in Stamford last Thursday and met with McMahon. Pillman has also agreed to return to the ECW Arena on Saturday (June 1), for an interview. No matter where Pillman surfaces, it would still be at least a month before he is actually wrestling again. He still needs time to recoup from the injuries sustained in last month's car wreck (namely, the fractured ankle). * When Nitro makes it's move tomorrow night to 2 hours, expect the primary "hot shot" angle to be the debut/return of whatever Scott "Razor Ramon" Hall's character is gonna be. [Although Marvez doesn't say so, also expect the biggest angle of the night, whatever it is, to happen right around 8:55.] Also, Sting faces Scott Steiner. * ECW sent an official to Cincinnati last week to scout out possible venue for live ECW shows out here! Marvez says that ECW has boomed in popularity out here since getting on TV every week, and quotes Paul "E. Dangerously" Heyman as saying "If we find the right venue, we could be there as early as July." * The highlight of last week's UFC was a 2-1 judges' decision with Dan Severn beating Ken Shamrock. The even went off as planned, despite politicians' efforts; a judge decided to allow the event, ordering that punches and headbutts must be banned. Fighters used them anyway, and police on the scene chose not to stop the event, since they felt the event organizers had made sufficient efforts at pleading with fighters not to use those moves. * Also, if *you* would like to leave a question for Marvez, you can now do so by calling (513)436-4636 and entering code number 3036, or by sending Alex e-mail at his new address: "alex_marvez@dni.com". Also, it seems like Alex has also surfaced on AOL; somebody with the screen name "Alex1Marv" has posted a couple times in the NewzFirst folder in the GSWrestling area. As always, I try to scour other info resources for the biggest and best news for my loyal readers. And as usual, you will have to settle for a bunch of crap I culled from various places on America On-Line: * Since we on Pillman: other folks are still saying that the Loose Cannon just might decide to take Turner's guaranteed money, and surface back in WCW. * Despite the good news for southern Ohio ECW fans above, we had to endure our favorite weekly wrestling show being pre-empted on Friday night 5/24 by SportsChannel Cincinnati. This is not the same as SportsChannel Ohio, so I don't know if the black-out was statewide. We got fed some lame soccer game instead. This comes a week after the ECW show was clipped by SCCinci; instead of the closing interview montage, we got a crew of idiot Cleveland Indian announcers running through interview clips with idito Cleveland Indians. Is there anything we can do?!?!?! * Jim "the Anvil" Neidhart will be back in the WWF. No one is sure what capacity he'll be used in, but Neidhart himself said he'd be at the IYH PPV tonight (though not necessarily *on* the PPV). * Don't expect Ted DiBiase to go anywhere soon; rumors of his departure for WCW may have been unfounded. * Ratings for last week (5/20) saw RAW still win the night, but with its worst "unopposed" rating yet. In the meantime, Nitro matched its best rating in the early timeslot since the NBA Playoff pre-emption. RAW netted at 3.1, while Nitro scored a 2.3. * RAW comes off the PPV with a loaded show tomorrow; in King of the Ring first round matches (I assume the "round of 16" is now being refered to as the "first round" rather than as a "qualifying round" as in the past), we will see 2 PPV caliber matches: Warrior/Goldust and Vader/Ahmed. And remember the rumors abound about new arrivals! Nitro is also stocking up tomorrow; although the biggest news is the possible arrival of Scott Hall, and the announced line-up only included Sting/Steiner and American Males/Flair&Arn, I'm sure Nitro's first 2 hour show will feature *something* we'll all be talking about. [FWIW, somebody has suggested that Hulk Hogan may decide to make himself the "big surprise" on the 2 hour Nitro. You are warned.] * Here is the full line-up of WWF PPV dates and sites for the rest of 1996: - In Your House Florence, SC May 26, 1996 - King of the Ring Milwaukee, WI June 23, 1996 - In Your House Vancouver, BC July 21, 1996 - Summerslam Cleveland, OH August 18, 1996 - In Your House Philadelphia, PA September 22, 1996 - In Your House Indianapolis, IN October 20, 1996 - Survivor Series MSG, New York City November 17, 1996 - In Your House Lakeland, FL December 15, 1996 Later..... -- Rick Scaia | I'm on the Web now!
