Got you. This is the "real" News From Dayton for this week. I apologize for pulling the old April Fools' Day News gag out; it's just that I remember somebody doing that 2 or 3 years ago on April 1, and I had never laughed as hard at something on the 'net. So now that I have a weekly [INFO] post, I wanted to pay homage to a tradition of old. This is the real News, starting with Alex Marvez's weekly column, recapped: * Lead stroy is WrestleMania, and Alex's predictions. He only picks winners for 3 matches, correctly picking Michaels, Undertaker, and Warrior to go over. Alex's tips his hat for the classy and realistic way the WWF promoted the Iron Man Match. * WCW was in town on Sunday, and Alex notes that WCW was quite upset when he printed their planned PPV finishes for the 1995 Great American Bash PPV (which was held here in Dayton). So he says he won't do the same for the WCW house show held on 3/31. But he doesn note that the undercard is totally revamped, as there are severl no- shows. Dean Malenko was married this weekend, and his opponent, Eddy Guerrero, was in the wedding party; neither made the show. Also, Marvez says that Pillman (schedded against Alex Wright) would miss the show cuz he was in Philly for ECW last night. Is this right? I thought PIllman and WCW were on the outs... Marvez also notes that Pillman is honestly unsure of his plans after his current WCW contract expires on April 17, 1996. * Marvez reams WCW for their dishonesty surrounding the Uncensored PPV. He notes that they knew Pillman was out for the PPV, but hyped him as a possibly participant anyway. He also made a note of how WCW's ridiculous booking around the Cruiserweight Title is unfair to fans. Finally, he states that Flair, Heenan, and Okerlund got lost en route to Tupelo, Miss, late weekend (arriving less than an hour before bell time), and wonders what kind of fanciful yarn they would have concocted if they hadn't made it. * Early reports are that Uncensored (which marvez actually called "a good show highlighted by an outstanding Sting/Booker T vs. Road Warriors match" -- making me wonder about any prescription medication Alex might be on) drew about 230,000 buys (roughly the same as the Royal Rumble, I guess), which would be their best buyrate since Uncensored 1995. If true, I guess this deflates the hopes of Hogan's booking power becoming diminished. * For Ohio ECW fans: Sportschannel Ohio will begin airing ECW on Friday nights at 2a.m.! News from Georgie's Chatterbox, on AOL: * The WWF has cut their "road" ring announcer, Manny Garcia. Manny also had become the regular ring announcer for most TV tapings. * Last week, when Kevin Sullivan reportedly "no-showed" the WCW Saturday Night tapings, along with his wife, WOman (which is odd, cuz Woman was on WCWSN), Arn Anderson was said to be the booker for the night. * Finally, this looks to be the line-up for the April 28 In Your House PPV: - Shawn Michaels defends his WWF Title against Diesel in a No Holds Barred Match - Undertaker vs. Mankind - Ultimate Warrior vs. Goldust (for IC Title) - Razor Ramon (back for 1 more year, according to Georgie) vs. Vader - Bodydonnas vs. Godwinns (for tag titles) - Savio Vega vs. British BUlldog Later.... -- Rick Scaia | I'm on the Web now!
