But there are also some other stories I'll be following for next week's "News From Dayton." Because of WrestleMania, I don't think I'll be able to post on Sunday, but instead look for "The News" on Monday, April 1. But enough about next week... here's *this* week's Marvez column: * Headline story, complete with a nice big pic, is Dennis Rodman's near agreement with WCW to appear at Uncensored. A WCW spokeman confirms preliminary talks were held, but that in the end, no agreement could be reached. Rodmans' agent simply declined comment on the matter. * Also covered is the "Ultimate Problem" posed by the introduction of the "Final Solution." WCW had no choice but to change the name upon multiple complaints. The decision: to call him the Ultimate Solution. A side note on SOlution, who "wrestled" as Jeep Swenson in Texas some years ago: his run-in on Nitro left him exhausted, forcing Jeep to stay at his hotel for an extra day to recouperate; while Marvez does refer to Swenson as a "muscle-bound clod" (one of Alex's funniest turned phrases in a while), he tempers the news of Jeeps' poor conditioning by saying that a WCW spokesperson contends that Swenson had been weakened by the flu, but would be fine for the PPV tonight. * RAW and Nitro cominged for another record setting evening on 3/18. All told, about 5 million people watched wrestling on that night, more than any other evening in the history of cable TV. Nitro won the ratings battle, by about 400,000 homes, which works out to approximately a 8% advantage. I wonder why Marvez didn't just use regular old ratings points? * Jess Ventura's court vicotry over the WWF (for about $800,00 in videotape royalty payments) was upheld this past week when the Supreme Court made a ruling that doesn't let companies dodge making royalty payments by hiding behind some kind of national Copyright law. In other words, TitanSports finally has to pay up to the Body. * WCW has moved it's Oct. 27 "Halloween Havoc" PPV from Cincinnati, OH, (gee, maybe I could have gone?) to Las Vegas, after a $300,000 sponsorship agreement with Slim Jim was worked out. * Tank Abbott was suspended from the next UFC cmpetition (5/17 in Detroit, where he was to face Dave Beneteau) due to his unprofessional behavior out of the ring. * Barry Windham recently inquired about getting a job with New Japan pro wrestling, after the antique car dealership he ran with his dad (Blackjack Mulligan) became defunct. Now, some other bits and pieces fo info, again, culled mostly from the incredibly informative "Georgie's Chatterbox" folder on AOL: * The 1-2-3 Kid's contract with the WWF has either been extended or it just rolled over... either way, the Kid ain't leaving anytime soon. * Bobby Heenan is also staying with his current employer, WCW, despite recent rumors. He signed a one-year deal that will take him into February, 1997. * Look for Dan Severn to start working with New Japan soon. * Devon Strom gets another shot with WCW at TV tapings this week. * "Dr. Death" Steve Williams returns to All Japan with the now-underway Carnival Tournament (which runs through April 22). * From the mouth of Kevin Nash himself: his WCW contract is for $2 million over 3 years. * Bruce "Brother Love" Pritchard is getting married in Vegas after WM and the TV tapings. * And finally, the WWF AOL site has a bona fide celebrity on their hands: Sunny is the #2 most-downloaded personality on all of AOL. And the WWF is actively emploring fans to make her #1! If the -- umm -- titilating video of Sunny on today's Action Zone is any indication of the steps they are going to take, it just might work.
