So shoot me. I'll try to supplement with exciting and insightful opinions at the end of this post. Y'know.... discussion starter type stuff. Here's the short version of the Marvez column first: * LEad story was last week's Nitro win for Flair over Hogan. Marvez says it took "over 4 years and 70 matches" and that, essentially, it's too late to try to build Flair as a legit threat to Hogan now. It is only the third pinfall loss for Hogan since Hulkamania was let loose in January, 1984 (first Warrior, then Yoko.... note: Marvez is leaving out the twin ref fiasco, when Hogan was "Pinned" by Andre). And suppossedly, Hogan "volunteered" to do the job to keep Flair around and to boost business. Hogan blading is in direct contradiction to what Eric Bischoff said was acceptable for TBS/TNT broadcasts, but marvez says that with Titan having marked success going for the more realistic, "hardcore" crowd, WCW is going to adopt the same style. (Marvez really said this.... this is not me editorializing. So *there*, Herb!) * The Giant will turn face at the PPV this weekend. That's all for Marvez... here's a couple other bits: * Greg Valentine and Tommy Rich might be headed for the WWF as a tag team. * Bam Bam Bigelow debuted in ECW last weekend, as a "face" (he saved Tod Gordon). ALso, Missy Hyatt has now replaced Woman as Sandman's manager. * All indications are that Heenan is both happy and safe with WCW. If anyone is in trouble with WCW brass, it is Pillman, but it's really not clear if Pillman is in legit risk of loosing his job or if WCW is trying to "work" the sheets and insiders. * From the WCW Universal tapings: the Giant is now a face, the Harlem Heat are now faces, the Renegade is back ( without make-up and plus 20 lbs.), and Johnny B. Badd was without the TV Title and without Kimberly. Now, how about some ramblings from the Most Respected Man on RSPW.... * Last week's Nitro was by far the most fun episode yet. I still thought RAW was superior (the Lariat, in an editorial, made the most appropriate commentary yet, saying that even when there isn't a **** match on the show, RAW is a lot of fun because it moves right along with tons of angles and cool shit), but damn, Nitro was dandy, too. Flair's win was great to see, and the Pillman/Anderson/DoD thing was well done. The show was capped off with Flair going nuts and absolutley cracking my shit up. It was enough that I'm willing to forget how dreadful the Roadies looked (then again, Meng and Barbarian pretty much suck, which didn't help). Good show. Then they follow it up with last night's show.... Savage/Benoit was a super match, and the post-match angle (though perhaps a bit of overkill) was once again fun, as Llair again destroyed Hogan. The rest of the show was typically boring stuff, but not bad. My big question is how come, with such a hot Flair/Hogan angle brewing, the schduled PPV matches are Savage vs. Flair and Hogan vs. Giant? To me, that defines WCW's problems... they seem to stumble into their good ideas, and don't know what to do with them once they get rolling. * Wasnt' Cactus' little vignette last night (where he all but declares that the WWF is his new hardcore home) funny? * Can Vince really convince Turner/Time-Warner shareholders to turn on Billionaire Ted and get him to divest WCW? I don't know, but he is ceratin to get Ted really pissed off in the process.... Later.... -- Rick Scaia | "Barkeep...
