From: ag725@FreeNet.Carleton.CA (Rick Scaia) Subject: [INFO] The News From Dayton, 1/21/96 Date: 1996/01/21 Message-ID: Sender: ag725@freenet3.carleton.ca (Rick Scaia) Organization: The National Capital FreeNet Reply-To: ag725@FreeNet.Carleton.CA (Rick Scaia) Newsgroups: rec.sport.pro-wrestling Quickly, before the Rumble, I want to sneak in here with a couple bits o' info. However, in addition to the weekly wrestling column, the Dayton Daily News also graced us with a lead story (by Alex Marvez, of course) about the corporate wrestling wars (essentially meaning the Monday Night Wars). I will post that article later in a "News From Dayton" Special Edition. But for now, here's the usual load of crap: * Marvez's lead story is tonight's Rumble. No real news here, just Alex's (logically deduced) opinions on who we can expect to win. Expect Michaels to win the Rumble. Expect the Bodydonnas to take the tag belts from the Gunns (and expect Sunny to maintain her newly found high profile). And expect Goldust to take Razor's IC belt (as Marvez notes, despite Razor's hatred for this angle "Goldust is one of Vince McMahon's favorite characters). * Smart money has Flair dropping the WCW Title to Savage on Nitro tommorrow. Then Savage will split with Hogan at the Clash. Then Hogan will smite the lowly Macho Man to regain His Title. [Note: I made up that last sentence myself. But you tell me it doesn't sound just about right!] The "secret weapon" will be Warrior, Roddy Piper, or Woman, according to marvez. * Coolest bit from Marvez this week: One Man Gang is now the US Champ in WCW. But how did he get the title? Well, the story went that OMG beat Kensuke Sasake for the title in the Starrcade dark match. But in reality, Sasake refused to job for OMG. WCW bookers set up a false finish where it would *seem* like OMG won the belt. The match at Starrcade actually continued, with Sasake winning in the end. But guess what? WCW turned off the cameras after the false finish... So if he wants, Sasake could still lay claim to being WCW US Champ. he never lost to OMG. A bunch of other of stuff (again, mostly from "Georgie's Chatterbox," which is, BTW, the BEST DAMN FOLDER ON AOL!): * At Center Stage tapings this week, Harlem Heat wrestled one match still as champs, but wrestled later w/o the belts. Sherri wasn't with them for either match. Flair wore his belt at all times during the tapings (which would conflict with Marvez's theory of the title switching onto Macho). The Public Enemy had a TERRIBLE match (suppossedly worse than the one on Nitro) with the Armstrongs; no tables or anything afterwards. And finally a team called the Overlords (big muscle-head, Roadie rip-offs) got a try-out. * Buddy Fuller, who is the real life father of Col. Robert Parker and a wrestling legend in his own right, passed away on January 15. * Roddy Piper made *3* trips to CNN Tower this past week. Make of that what you will... * We may see Madusa vs. Sherri very soon in WCW. We may also be seeing Steve McMichael in the ring very soon. * The Royal Rumble in Fresno is a legit sell-out of ~10,000. * Finally, there is some possibility that the Steiner brothers may resurface in the WWF. Scott had been talking with WCW, who put together a damned impressive offer. However, Rick vetoed a return to WCW. Rick would prefer to move back to the WWF, and travel with his buddy from Japan, Vader. At this point, if Rick and Scott return to a full time US schedule, they would surface n the WWF. Remember, I'll be back later tonight with Rumble resutls and analysis, and also the lead story from today's DDN about the Monday Night wrestling wars. Later.... -- Rick Scaia | "Barkeep...
