My Dayton Daily News did not show up on Sunday, and I did not get a chance to go home during the week to use my dad's AOL account to get other tidbits of info. All because of this damned snow. However, I did track down a copy of the DDN today, and figgered, "What the hell?". Here goes.... * Alex Marvez's lead story concerns the scheduled debut of the Public Enemy on Nitro this evening (note: the PE did not show! I will assume the reasons are nothing more nefarious than travel complications due to the Blizzard). Since Alex was in Philly on Friday night, he got to talk to the PE (who will be wrestling in WCW under their current team and individual names), and had a bunch of quotes about the departure from ECW and arrival in WCW. Rocco said he had always wanted to work for the WWF, but Johnny noted that WCW's guaranteed money contract was too good to pass up. Rocco feels that WCW is at least trying to move in a good direction with their mid-carders (more hardcore, he said....), and the PE look forward to getting a good mid-card position, and furthering WCW's efforts to fix its product. Marvez editorializes that the PE will be heels and will feud with the Nasty Boys initially, and then likely move on to being the WCW tag champs. Marvez also feels that PE's chances of success in WCW are greater than the ECW'ers that have preceded them; it is noted that Sabu is already back to ECW and indies while Benoit and Eddy only win mid-card matches (and drop important ones) and while Malenko has become invisible (and headed for an absolutley pointless feud with the DiskoNazi, Alex Wright). The PE also had kind parting words for ECW, saying that they did not doubt that ECW would continue to grow and flourish. * Marvez also had other ECW news: ECW is strongly looking into promoting a PPV during 1996. Sabu would likely be a headliner. Also, "The Franchise" Shane Douglas is back (and as my ECW Arena colleagues no doubt chanted, "Dean is dead") in ECW, although his back remains injured. Titan did not hamper his return to ECW at all (though some sources said that Douglas' injury and inablity to do his farewell job to Ahmed Johnson would likely entice the WWF to insist that Douglas not work for ECW till his contract was expired). * Ultimate Warrior will NOT be at the Royal Rumble. Money was the sticking point as negociations between the Warrior and the WWF came to a halt. * Cactus Jack had a promo spot on WWF Superstars. It's not clear what his gimmick will be exactly, but it doesn't seem like it will be much different from what he's been doing for several years now. Lame week for news, eh? Sorry.... I'll try to make it up next week. I mean *make up* for it. I won't make the news up. Although if I did, I bet I could invent some damned HOT rumors that would quickly spread throughout wrestling fandom. BWHAHAHAHAHAHA! Later.... -- Rick Scaia | "Barkeep...
