From: ag725@FreeNet.Carleton.CA (Rick Scaia) Subject: [INFO] Weekly Dayton Daily News Column, 8/6/95 Date: 1995/08/07 Message-ID: Sender: ag725@freenet3.carleton.ca (Rick Scaia) Organization: The National Capital FreeNet Reply-To: ag725@FreeNet.Carleton.CA (Rick Scaia) Newsgroups: rec.sport.pro-wrestling A while back, I made mention of sporadic articles regarding pro wrestling appearing in the Dayton (OH) Daily News... and thanks to the crack staff here on RSPW, we quickly found out that the guy writing them (Mr. Alex Marvez) is a guy who is actually an old hand within pro wrestling media circles. Evidently, he influenced one Mr. Dave Meltzer to some extent. So when I kept finding more and more wrestling articles surfacing by Marvez, I was quite happy. Now, it is official that Marvez's column will be weekly, and published every Sunday. When there is stuff worth mentioning, I will post reports here. Today's column's highlights: * First off, if you're a Daytonian (or don't mind a long distance call), and you have a wrestling question you'd like Alex to answer in a column, call (513)463-4636 and enter code 3036. *Top story was Sid being pulled from the SS IC Title match. Alex says that Titan's motivation was simply to put on a "good" match that would strengthen the card. No mention of Sid being injured or fired. Does this mean that Vince is listening? Don't answer that. Please. * Marvez does a quick recap of Shawn Michaels at the SMW Super Bowl show. Mentions Landell turning, after Cornette's interference cost him the match. Says it was SMW's biggest paying crowd, ever, in the vincinity of 4500. * Hakushi saved his job by putting on that spectacular performance 2 weeks ago on RAW, says Marvez. He goes on to say that Hakushi has been retained, and will be pushed to an IC title feud with Michaels by the fall. I await this quite anxiously. * Only WWF cuts Marvez confirms are: Duke Droese and Tekno Team 2000. Either the others are not true, or nobody told Alex about them. * Marvez says Al Snow is locked in to a WWF contract, and will begin in a "few weeks." Then again, last week, he said Eddy Guerrero was WCW-bound and that is why Eddy dropped the ECW TV Title. * This week, Marvez says that NONE of the rumored WCW newcomers are actually going to sign. Snow, Benoit, Guerrero, and the Public Enemy all shunned WCW because of WCW insistance on NOT offering guaranteed contracts. They will instead stay with ECW. * Marvez also runs down the Clash in two paragraphs. He correctly reported all major developments, except he said that Orndorff would take the TV Title from Renegade. That's it from Alex. I am quite pleased to have this column be a weekly feature. Gives me a reason to do more than glance and see if the Yankees have closed any more ground on the hated Red Sox when I read teh sports section. Just a quick note: on the Action Zone, Monsoon made his decree about the changed IC Title match, and went further to state that he had a HUGE announcement lined up for RAW tommorrow night. I swear, with his attitude (I am listening to the fans, and don't play the politcs game... Who cares about the wrestlers, I will do what the fans want me to....) he is coming accross as the WWF's own Tod Gordon clone. "Creative Engineering for the WWF," eh, Ed Zohn? Maybe more right than you know.... if Gorilla is used right in this role (meaning, if Vince feeds him the right decisions to make), I will come to love the man. BTW, the only announcement big enough to make a huge fuss over would be the changing of the SS Main Event. And it would have to be changed to Diesel vs. Bret. All of a sudden, you'd go from guaranteed snoozefest to a super-on-paper PPV. I'm not saying I realistically believe it will happen, but I happen to believe it's the only big decsion worth hyping this much. In other words, I am making preparations to be really disappointed tommorrow night. Later..... -- Rick Scaia | "I am a lost soul, I shoot myself Why?
